Harry and Meghan Take Cardiff

Continuing the frenzy that has accompanied their public appearances since they announced their engagement in November, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were welcomed to Wales by large crowds as they paid a visit to Cardiff on Thursday.

The couple arrived at Cardiff Castle delayed by an hour due to transportation issues, but were promptly greeted by cheers and a sea of waving Welsh flags. Harry and Meghan did a brief walkabout outside the Castle, shaking hands and thanking everyone for waiting, before they met young Harry and Megan who presented them with a traditional Celtic love spoon.

They were then given a tour of the Castle, listening to poetry and music, and learning how the Castle and members of the local community are “promoting Welsh language and identity”. They also met Welsh sporting identities during a brief reception, and tasted traditional Welsh cakes and sampled Welsh cheese.

Afterwards it was on to StarHub, a local community centre where sport is used to engage young people from all backgrounds. Here, the Prince and his bride-to-be (who was sporting black jeans, a beige tartan off-the-shoulder blazer, and a Stella McCartney coat) watched a street dance performance, saw exercise drills and played Jenga (Meghan telling the children that the game, though she loved it, “makes me so nervous just watching it!’). Meghan was also on the receiving end of a massive group hug from a number of young girls, which made Harry jokingly call out after a short time, “And release, she’s mine!”.
