Prince William Pays Surprise Visit to Manchester, Thanks First Responders

The Duke of Cambridge has paid an unannounced visit to Manchester this morning where he met with first responders and members of the Mancunian community who tended to victims of the May 22 terror attack.

He visited the headquarters of the Greater Manchester Police, where Chief Constable Ian Hopkins gave the Prince a briefing on the investigation in the days following the attack. Prince William then met with a number of police officers, including those who were first on the scene at Manchester Arena in the immediate aftermath of the attack that left 22 people dead and over 100 injured.

One of the police officers William spoke with, British Transport Police Officer Phil Healy (who was first at the scene tasked with searching for any secondary bombs), said it was “very much appreciated” that William made the visit.

Afterwards, the Duke headed to Manchester Cathedral where he met St John Ambulance staff, British Red Cross representatives and local taxi drivers and restauranteurs who all provided assistance in the hours after the attack.

William wanted to “acknowledge and thank the people of Manchester for their strength, decency and kindness”, Kensington Palace said.
