Queen Elizabeth made the trip north today to pay an unannounced visit to the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, where she met teenage victims of Monday night’s terrorist attack at Manchester Arena.

She labelled the attack “dreadful” and said it was “very wicked. To target that sort of thing” as she spoke with 14-year-old Evie Mills, who was injured in the bomb blast following the conclusion of Ariana Grande’s Manchester show.

The Queen – whose visit was described as “really appreciated” by the RMCH – also met with doctors, nurses and other staff who have been treating patients around the clock since the attack, thanking them for their work. There are fourteen children still receiving treatment at the hospital.

22 people were killed in the attack, the youngest being an 8-year-old girl.
