A Busy Day in Denmark For Princess Mary

The Crown Princess of Denmark had a busy day of engagements on Thursday, as she spent time at the Danish Home Guard’s command centre in Vordingborg before visiting a hospice in Lolland.

Mary was given a tour of the command centre, which includes a radar station that was used by NATO during the Cold War. She also inspected the archives of the Home Guard, kept in an underground bunker, and met volunteers of the Home Guard.

The Crown Princess, a First Lieutenant in the Home Guard, has to – like all other volunteers – participate in 24 hours of volunteer work with the organisation each year.

In the afternoon, Mary – who had changed out of her camouflage gear – headed to Lolland, where she visited the Swan Hospice. She met with staff and patients of the hospice, which provides end-of-life care. The royal visit was described as a “good experience” for the patients and staff alike by the hospice’s director.
