Official Visit to the Dutch Caribbean – St Maarten

On Tuesday, November 12th in the afternoon, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima arrived at the “Princess Juliana Airport” in St Maarten. The couple arrived to start a visit to the six islands in the Caribbean which is part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The visit comes as part of the “Provinces Visits” to mark the inauguration of King Willem-Alexander. Ronald Plasterk, Minister of the Interior, accompanied them. 

The tour started on Wednesday, November 13th in St Maarten. The King and the Queen were received by the Governor Eugene Holiday and the Prime Minister Sarah Wescot-Williams at the Clem Labega Square in the capital Philipsburg with a welcoming ceremony. After the inspection of the guard of honor by the King, the Royal Couple went to the Governments Building where they had held meetings with the Prime Minister, the Council of Ministers and they also met the members of the States.

Later the King and the Queen visited the High School “Milton Peters College” and the Raoul Illidge Sports Complex where they met the winners of the “King Games”, a sports day for primary schools students. At the end of the afternoon the King and the Queen made a walk through the Front Street in Philipsburg, a street with ancient local monuments.

That evening, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima attended a party in the Festival Village where various artists were present.
