Trooping the Colour 2013

The British Royal Family were out in full force yesterday to mark the Queen’s official birthday with the annual Trooping the Colour parade.

Queen Elizabeth II was joined by her first cousin, the Duke of Kent, for the journey from Buckingham Palace down The Mall towards Horse Guards Parade to receive the official salute from the Household Cavalry. She was joined by the Duke in place of her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh, who is recovering from surgery last week. Unlike most years, the Queen travelled in the glass coach instead of an open-top carriage.

Members of the royal family who travelled in the procession in carriages were the Duchess of Cornwall (repeating her Jubilee flotilla outfit), the Duchess of Cambridge (in pale pink bespoke Alexander McQueen), Prince Harry, the Duke of York and his daughters Beatrice (in Red Valentino) and Eugenie, the Earl and Countess of Wessex and their daughter Louise. The Prince of Wales, the Duke of Cambridge and the Princess Royal – all Royal Colonels – took part in the procession on horseback.

Upon arrival at Horse Guards Parade, Queen Elizabeth – wearing an electric blue Angela Kelly coat with a matching lace dress and hat – inspected the troops before returning to Buckingham Palace for the traditional balcony appearance, final Troop and fly-past.

Members of the extended Royal Family – including the Gloucesters and Kents – also joined in the celebrations on the balcony. James, Viscount Severn made his first balcony appearance, and seemed entranced by the Red Arrows, using his hands to make binoculars and pointing excitedly as they went past trailing red, white and blue smoke.

Following the conclusion of the Trooping, the Queen paid a visit to the Duke of Edinburgh at the London Clinic.
