Dutch Crown Prince Couple Worked Harder this Year
Prince Willem-Alexander and Princess Maxima this year were much more active in the Netherlands compared to last year. The Dutch Crown Prince couple carried out around 160 public appearances between them this year, well up on last year’s total reported by news agency ANP.
Prince Willem-Alexander was out and about on official business over 70 times, compared with 40 in 2009. Princess Maxima carried out almost 90 official engagements, up from 60 a year ago. More than once a week, the prince and princess weere to be found somewhere at home, according to a summary of the visits over the past two years. The prince made 16 foreign trips and the princess 19, especially in relation to her work for the UN. Over one year ago there was criticism that Willem-Alexander and Maxima did not attend enough events in the Netherlands and would spend most of their time abroad.
Queen Beatrix had 70 public engagements away from home this year, down slightly on the 2009 total. Besides Queen Beatrix, the Crown Prince and his wife Princess Maxima, Princess Margriet, Pieter van Vollenhoven and Princess Laurentien are of the most active members of the royal family by their number of public appearances.
