Do you think that Count Nikolai will return back to Denmark for the abdication?

No, it's quite a lot of flying back and forth for someone who is pretty far down the ranks within the DRF.
It'll take Nikolai most of a week to fly in, settle, and fly back again. I think he will skip and congratulate his farbror later.

That makes sense that he'd remain in Australia.

Well, it's a note a teacher don't see every day: Henrik and Athena can't go to school tomorrow, their uncle is going to be king.
I love this  and you are so right!

I don’t know if anyone has started a thread, so please feel free to move this. What are your thought about J & M remaining in DC? Does this change anything? Or was this part of the pre-abdication planning?

I would assume part of it, unless the abdication decision really was really rather sudden.

Last June/July he moved to Australia to study during six months. I can believe that this time in the Land Down Under has gone and could fly back to Denmark to watch the proclamation of his uncle Frederik

The semester will be over; as the main Australian school holidays are in January (starting in December depending on the state extending into early February). UTS, where Nikolai was studying, ended their regular semester in November and had their Rescheduled and Alternative Exams period just before Christmas. The next semester will start mid-February.

Probably the SWB, Greek and Nordic royal families as well the Presidents of Iceland and Finland will attend the proclamation

it would the current president of finland last foregin visit as president i believe he is term limit new elections this year

Found this piece of video on YouTube of the moment QMII was proclaimed Queen on the balcony of Christianborg on January 15th 1972.

I assume this is basically how the proclamation will be for Frederik with the needed revisions given the difference in circumstances.

Added: link to proclamation video posted by DRF YouTube a few years ago

Now it is revealed that Tivoli on January 14 at 18.00 will set off the biggest fireworks display in the history of the old amusement park."

So the abdicated Queen has to leave before the proclamation of the new King. Pity that there is no second Balcony appearance at Amalienborg like in 1972. There they could have included Margrethe similiar to what they do in the Netherlands

Sunset is around 1600 in Copenhagen so in theory they do have enough time for a balcony appearance at Amalienborg before it gets dark. Although not sure why they wouldn't announce it .

Can we expect a gala dinner? As is a happy ascension to the throne because no one died.

That is a full and comprehensive programme. Great to have the translation as unfortunately I can’t speak Danish!

I wonder whether any of the news Channels here in Aus will send anyone to cover this. Probably not, but there could well be news feeds from Danish TV showing the new King and Queen on the balcony and in their carriage with cheering crowds in the streets. I hope so. This is, after all, the first time an Aussie will be a Queen Consort to a reigning King.

I don't think Australian TV will have live coverage, considering it will be 11:30pm ACDT/midnight AEDT when Council of State occurs and the early hours of Monday morning for the actual Proclamation. I think their wedding coverage in Australia was off the back of the EBU and that was in itself was a special deal with SBS as there was a lot of interest in the wedding.

I found endly in the Royal jewels message board a thread posted by Arthur with pictures of the different collars , sashes , orders worn by King frederik IX and Queen Margrete II.

I was wondering what the dress code would be?
As far as I remember, QMII wore long dress with hat/lace.

QMII was in mourning dress when she was Proclaimed as Queen. I suspect it will be day formal wear, like they have for Flag day

Tivoli's press release:

https://www.tivoli.dk/da/om/presse/pressemeddelelser/2024/velkommen-og-tak-for-den-store-scenografi

In addition to welcoming the new king and queen, the fireworks display is intended to thank Queen Margrethe for the "scenography" she has used over the past 52 years to "tell the story of Denmark" with "special artistic sensibility", tradition and innovation, seriousness and levity, surprise and wonder. (Considering the Queen's artistic work, I'm not sure if Tivoli means this tribute to her "scenography" literally, figuratively or both; perhaps Danish speaking members could clarify.)

Here is the link to the English version of the announcement of the program for the change of throne posted by polyesco (which is also included in the media packet linked by tommy100):

Yes I knew the time difference would probably prohibit live coverage of the ceremonies. However, hopefully Aus morning TV might have some clips and the TV news the next night some more.

I hazard-a-guess they definitely will, and probably have journalists on the ground in Copenhagen too, crossing over to them from 5.30am our time to get the "scoop".

King Christian X (in 1912) and King Frederik IX (in 1947) wore uniforms with orders and medals at their proclamations… Queen Ingrid (in 1947) and Queen Margrethe II (in 1972) wore black court mourning dress’… QMII also pinned on the Order of the Elephant…

Now when the court will not be in mourning, i would guess uniform for Frederik and formal dress for Mary, like we saw on the recent New Years Receptions

I would also say that the dress code would be like the New Years Receptions. Or at least I hope so.

Curryong-I hope that there is good coverage of this story in Australia!

Will Princess Benedikte's children Prince Gustav of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Beleburg, Princess Alexandra, and Princess Nathalie attend?
