They aren't done, though. They're supposed to start again in "early January".

Isn't it time it was finished? I think it is awful, and now it is coming up to recent years, it is dealing with events that only happened some few years ago and are painful memories for many of the younger royals like William.

They were to finish with this season, but the events of the last 3 years resulted in Netflix given the showrunner a nice bonus to continue.
I recently saw a journal article referring to it as entertainment propaganda. Good think Goebbels didn't have Hollywood or the internet in general. I just think it shows how happy people are to throw away critical thinking and facts for dumbed down sensational soap opera.

Agreed.

I wonder what they were doing in Doncaster of all places?

Not that there's anything wrong with Doncaster I hasten to add.?

I don’t know if people were aware of this slightly old news, but Peter Morgan used to be the son-in-law of Prince Karel Schwarzenberg. He was also dating Gillian Anderson, but they split, and he dated Jemima Khan.

Of course there will. Why wouldn't there be? You don't think previous seasons were openly critical of (at that time) living members of the family? Why should Charles and Camilla be treated any differently now in that respect?

Season 5 is scheduled to air in late November this year!

I can't wait. The Crown really is one of the best shows I've ever seen, whether on TV or streaming services. Claire Foy, in particular, was perfection as the young Queen Elizabeth II.

it is terrible IMO. The scriptwriters are wildly inaccurate, hte acting is so so.

They should be treated differently because they were already trolled on their pages because of it and it is tiring to be beating a dead horse on a 30 year scandal. Plus it’s rich for Peter Morgan to capitalize on that with own failed marriage and a relationship with one of the actresses on the series and dating a friend of Diana’s who was helping with the series.

I was a latecomer to The Crown (Claire Foy is still playing Elizabeth where I got to) but when my gift voucher ran out I decided to wait until S5 and then binge watch. I may wait for the cheaper plan with ads that they’re supposed to be launching.

No, I don't think the series was ever openly critical of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip as it was (or will be, based on Season 5 spoilers) of Charles and Camilla. Now that Charles is the Sovereign, that creates legal problems for the producers.

Not really. Freedom of speech is still freedom of speech. If they were shameless enough not to even add a "based on actual events" disclaimer, I don't think they worry about much else.

Seriously. So long as nothing they're portraying is libelous or criminal, they can be as hard on them as they want or as lax on them as they want. It isn't against the law, last I checked, to be critical of someone in a TV show.

The new season is going to say that Prince Philip had an affair with Penny Romsey//Knatchbull. It isn’t true, and there’s a lot of upset about it in the press, especially coming so soon after the deaths of Prince Philip and the Queen.

I would think Countess Mountbatten would be upset. If it's not true, she could sue for libel, although it would probably be agonizing, expensive, and messy.
