Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee Celebrations: 2022

I work with children that age every day too and can honestly say there is always one child who acts up at the worst time. Any time my Head Teacher comes into observe a lesson at least one child (and usually the one who you least expect) acts up and suddenly becomes mouth almighty to challenge you. Louis is 4, attended trooping the colour, visited Cardiff, been around family he may not always see but gets indulged by for a long weekend and was probably shattered. Not long after that clip presumably is when Catherine walked him out for a rest before the balcony. It always gets me that people are always so happy W&C raise "such normal children" on one hand but on the other as soon as said "normal children" misbehave in the way any normal child would they are ill prepared for royal life and being appallingly misbehaved. He is 4, he stayed as long as he could - probably on reflection for all a bit too long and then was taken for some downtime before the big balcony appearance. I don't see a problem.

Perfectly said. Prince Louis is a typical 4 year old, his antics are no surprises at all. Catherine did remarkably well. She didn't overreact (would have made things 1000 times worse) and took him away when he wasn't going to stop. I saw a news article stating she "has no control over her kids" - bollocks. Even the most mild-mannered children can be like this. Overtired, over-stimulated and over it! Bravo to Catherine for dishing out discipline when it was required

Amazing end to a wonderful 4 days of celebrations. Makes me proud to be british

I agree they should not be allowed to travel together. Def. very risky.

Remember the first Prince William?

William/Louis and George/Kate/Charlotte should be how they fly.

They will allow William and George to fly together until George is 12. It isn't as if there aren't enough heirs anyway with well over 5000 of them.

The age was set at 12 when Diana insisted on taking William to Australia in 1983. Prior to that the heir wasn't allowed to fly with the one ahead in the line of succession so The Queen never flew with Charles but she did travel with him by car, train and ship.

Flying is actually safer now than it has ever been.

Per your stated rule, the heir (the Prince of Wales) is not allowed to fly with the one ahead of him in the line of succession (the Duke of Cambridge), but that doesn't say anything about the third in line (George) traveling with the second (William), does it?

This seems to have been a very successful celebration of HM’s 70 years! I certainly enjoyed seeing the events, the family out and about- especially all the kids.

Everyone must be exhausted now!

That’s lovely that Lucas attended too! So all Her Majesty’s great grandchildren (bar 2) were there, what a fantastic family outing! I believe there must have been a wee area under or beside the royal box for the children as I saw Edo and Beatrice slipping out with Wolfie, August was in and out and I also noted Savannah nipping in and out a couple of times.

I wonder if Louise has exams on Monday so they choose to stay at home, Bagshot, which is close to Windsor - Sophie and Ed could nip out and visit the Jubilee Lunch at Windsor while she prepared maybe? Who knows but I'm sure they had a good reason not to be in London for the pagent especially as they seem to have all be attending most events.

I think that both kids were there with friend/ school groups - there was an request to the press not to take pics of them there. This is also what happened at the Windsor Horse Show - James was there with friends.

Did you see Sienna as well? Based on the comments that were only about Wolfie I assumed she wasnt present.

They were in Northern Ireland on Saturday. On Sunday they showed up on the street party on the Long Walk in Windsor.

I think it is clear that the children are in the habit of meeting up, there was a chemistry between the whole family.

The Wessexes were attending a Big Lunch event at Windsor.

The Queen said in her message that she intends to continue serving the nation and the Commonwealth to the best of her ability, supported by her family. I take that to mean that she has no intention of abdicating, but that other family members will take over some of her duties, which is what's happening anyway.

No-one's going to force the Duke of Kent (aged 86) or Duke and Duchess of Gloucester (aged 77 and 75) out of their positions, but they'll inevitably do less as time goes on. I'm not sure that the "slimmed down" monarchy idea is going to work. George will be 9 this month. It'll be at least another 12 years before he's finished his education, assuming that he goes to university, and I doubt that William and Catherine will want to push him into going straight into royal duties even then. Charles and Camilla will be in their mid-80s by then, and William and Catherine can't be everywhere and do everything at once.

I thoroughly enjoyed the 4 days of celebrations and so pleased the weather remained dry for them, as it is raining in London now, (7am Monday morning).
Prince Louis is no different to his father and uncle when they were that age.
The highlight for me was the Paddington Bear skit, and I hope they present Her Majesty with another BAFTA award for it.
London must have been buzzing with joy, and so great to see the street parties everywhere.

I think you are already witnessing the reshaping of the monarchy. Technology allows them to get their message out far and wide, without needing to being physically present everywhere. They will carry out fewer engagements, and will have a stronger focus along specific themes. This can be seen with the work that is done in relation to Communities and the Environment (Charles), Domestic Violence and Literacy (Camilla), Wildlife and the Environment (William) and Early Years (Catherine). Fewer charities will get royal patronages, but those that do, will get a lot more attention. Few of the nearly 1,000 charities supported by the Duke of Edinburgh now have royal patronages.

In context, the larger sized working royal family that you see is becuase the Queen's uncles and aunts and then, cousins were drated in to support her as she had very few royals supporting her in the early part of her reign. Once the Queen's children were old enough to conduct engagements, the cousins could have been retired, but it was felt inappropriate to do so as a number of them had sacrificed their careers to support HM.

Footage of the Cambridge family leaving for Wales by helicopter. Prince Louis was in the van dropping them off receiving blow kisses from his dad when they had to leave.

Given the prominent position the working royals were given (now and before), I see little reason why Anne, Edward and Sophie won't continue to support their brother (in law) during his reign. The Kent cousins will most likely retire and the Gloucester couple might do some occassional events as they are much closer in age to Charles himself.

I will always remember the apparition of Her Majesty yesterday with the 3 coming Kings Charles, William and George. Such a picture I am afraid we will never see again !

I think Catherine deserves a medal for sitting next to a 4yr old for hours in public with cameras trained on her (and his) every move. All the young mums I know have been saying on social media that they wouldn't have blamed Catherine for whipping out a packet of Haribos and iPad loaded with Peppa Pig!

It was a delight to watch. All of it.

I have no doubt that "slimmed-down" monarchy or not, quite a few members of the extended RF will keep supporting the sovereign. Yes, technologies are wonderful and they make it all easier but the presence of royalty in person won't lose its meaning, IMO. "The sovereign in the castle" is a concept rather alienating and it won't be less so because we're granted the privilege of seeing their images "technologised" and all.

The videos of the RF members with people even nowadays make it clear that people want to see them and feel the "sprinkle" of royalty.

Having just taken two children aged 6 and 4 to a well-attended event in the open, I find nothing strange in Louis' behavior. Excited, overstimulated, tired and tiny - not the best combination. And Catherine could hardly give him the full measure of disciplining without making it all worse in the sight of thousands.

All in all, a lovely celebration. Her Majesty is amazing.

The haribos were doing the rounds. I saw the older children sharing them. The kids were being children. It was so marvellous to have them there.

As for Louis. We laughed our heads off in this house. What a character. And you are right. Just dysregulated. It was almost like he choreographed his hand movements.

It was has been obvious from his first appearances that he is a great character. In fact he seems to be almost known universally as 'boss baby.' All It proves is that Kate is a primary care giver and has a secure attachment with her children. No child behaves like that with people they don't feel safe with.

It has always been pretty evident that the two younger Cambridge children have confident, forceful characters.

My favourite moment of the weekend was the Queen and Paddington Bear tapping on their tea cups on the rythm of We will rock you.

I hope some group pictures with her and her ((great) grand) children were taken and that they will share them with us.

A big multigenerational picture would be fantastic. Or even a picture of the Queen with her great grandchildren; I loved the picture they released when Charlotte was a baby (with one of the little girls holding the Queen’s handbag). And a picture of her with just the children would avoid needless focus on which adult family members were included or not, and the reasons why.

Does anyone recall this song?
The Coronation in a Golden Coach sung by Bob and Alf Pearson in 1953

That was for her 90th birthday and the little girl holding the handbag was the two year old Mia Tindall. It was her existing great-grandchildren, Savannah, Isla, George, Mia and Charlotte and two youngest grandchildren, Louise and James.

I don't think there would even be a great-grandchildren's picture taken simply due to the time available for such a gathering was rather limited.

I agree. As charming as it would be to see all 12 from Savanah to Sienna, I simply do not believe there was a time when all of them were together this weekend with the Queen.

How I do wish she could've gotten a photo with all her descendants, like the few ones Queen Victoria would have over time from family events. The diamond wedding anniversary picture from 2007 may be the best we ever get.

Even if they did get such a picture, I doubt it would be shared with the public. Family pictures tend to be shared at personal milestones like wedding anniversaries and birthdays. This is a "professional" milestone for HM.
