The Duke of Kent is Colonel of the Scots Guards and it was the Scots Guards whose colour was trooped at this ceremony. That is why he was there.

If it has been the Irish Guards it would have been William or the Welsh Guards it would have been Anne.

Next year Trooping will be on the Thursday as part of the Jubilee celebrations so unless covid is still leading to major restrictions then I would expect the entire family to be present, including those who no longer live in the UK. It is the first event of the Jubilee weekend.

As a 17 year old he swore to be her 'liege man of life and limb' and he has stuck by that vow, just as his Uncle Henry and cousin Philip did who made their oaths just before he did. He is the only one alive today who swore allegiance to HM on that day.

He's been such a dependable working Royal. Harry could learn a lot from this man's service to HM.

What a nice honour for Princess Margareta and Prince Radu. I assume the Prince of Wales invited them during his visit to Romania (two days ago).

Princess Margareta of Romania is not only a family to the Prince of Wales, their fathers King Michael and Prince Philip were youth friends.

And King Michael felt in love with Princess Margareta's mother, Anne princesse de Bourbon de Parme, at the wedding of Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip.

The regular visits to Romania (and last year Margareta & Radu were at Windsor ) seem to hint at a close bond.

First carriage is; The Duchess of Cornwall, The Duchess of Cambridge and Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

Second carriage is; The Earl and Countess of Wessex with Lady Louise and Viscount Severn.

Third carriage is; The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester and Admiral Tim Laurence.

Two observations:
The Earl of Wessex is in a scarlet tunic. Either the London Regiment has a new uniform or he was very recently (too late to practice riding) made the new colonel of the Grenadier Guards.
I've never seen collars worn at the birthday parade. I'm not sure if it's because of the Jubilee (which was a collar event in 1977 and 2002) or if it's because it's Coronation Day.

I noticed it too that the are wearing the Garter Collar and the sash of the Order of the Thistle.

I now see that the London Regiment became the "London Guards" in May, and they must have gotten Guards uniforms as a result. The Earl was wearing the old London Regiment cap badge.
 
I spotted Peter Philip’s two daughters watching at Horse Guards with Prince Louis.
 
Wonderful to see the Cambridge and Wessex children for the carriage procession.
 
Zara has posted a pic of herself and Mike today, I hope others do it too as no balcony for most of them and I love seeing the outfits. We see Kate all the time so it was always a good occasion to see everyone else, so disappointing.

Wasn't it a bit rude for them to do that? Like saying "we were not invited to he Balcony, but here we are" ?

Prince Edward is wearing the sash of the Royal Victorian Order, as he is not a Knight of the Thistle.

It's not rude at all, I hope more family members do it.
 
I don’t for one minute think it was meant in this way. Rather, just ‘happy to be part of this day’. They are well aware of the sensitivities surrounding the balcony appearance this year, and there will be further opportunities later in the celebratory weekend to be pictured as part of the family.

The Duke of Kent is wearing the sash of the Order of St Michael and St George, though it seems to be on the wrong shoulder. I suppose it's probably been 20 years since the last collar event where he would have needed it.

Forgive me if this was mentioned before, but is it known why Princess Alexandra did make it to the balcony but her brother Prince Michael did not?

The balcony seems rather filled up with the present group btw, it makes you wonder how they ever were able to fit 3 times as much people without anybody falling off.
