Prince Harry and Meghan Markle: Church Service, Carriage Procession - May 19, 2018

ON a positive note:

I just want to give a lot of love to Doria. She was the epitome of grace, dignity and class. Her emotion for her daughter was so beautiful. As hard as this week was for the bride and groom, I imagine it was equally if not more hard for Doria. To see her daughter so dragged through the mud because of her own family? To see her ex-partner so botch the lead up?

Doria is just a class act all around.

I was so pleased to see how loving Charles was with her. I have a feeling Charles truly feels he has found a daughter in Meghan and also really respects Doria. Not shade on Kate, but Kate is extremely close to her family and is so very lucky in that sense. I think with Meghan, we will see Charles really become a big figure in her life with her parents being so far and her dad being...who he is as a person.

Doria reminds me so much of my mama, who is truly a queen among women. I am looking forward to seeing her at other events, as she is able to cross the pond.

YES! Absolutely agree on all points! You can clearly see where Meghan gets her beauty and grace from. She did a wonderful job bringing up such a warm accomplished, strong and caring woman and seeing her so happy marrying a man she is so obviously in love with was clearly very emotional. Seeing it all in the setting of a medieval castle as your little girl marries a Royal Prince? No words.... Prince Charles was wonderful and I think it is very obvious he is very taken with his néw daughter. :flowers:

I don't know, I guess watching the celebrities walk in looked rather like they were walking the red carpet, which in turn made me think Hollywood! ;)

Yes, I guess it was the guest list that made it very Holliwood! Understandably, given MM's background!

[...]
The only thing that surprises me, would have expected to swap Elton and David with George and Amal. Unless I am missing some connection, Elton seems to have more of a relationship with Harry.
[...] .

I don't think Elton John has much of a relationship with Harry. In any case, the bride's side of the chapel represented MM's choices and clearly, she hardly knows the Middletons and Elton John.

But George and Amal were seated on the bride's side so not really interchangeable. I thought I read that Meghan and Amal have known each other for some time now.

They met when Meghan moved to London or so reports say, so since late October of last year.

There were a number of Harry's friends on Meghan's side. I guess they are now hers as well but still. Charlie and Thomas Van Strabaneeze. Edward Lane Fox and a few others. So Elton certainly could have sat over there. He seems to have more/longer connection then Oprah and the Clooneys. The Suits cast was also in the naïve and have known her for seven years. But I guess probably couldn't put the whole cast in the choir, so instead of picking one or two, put them all together in the naïve.

She hardly knows Oprah, or the Clooneys. And there are a number of Harry's friends and employees on her side if you look at the seating chart.

Harry and William have had a continued relationship with Elton since before their mother died. It was not coincidence he was chosen to perform at their afternoon reception.

I agree. One of the best moments of the ceremony for me was at the very end when before exiting the chapel (I believe to sign the register?) Prince Charles took Doria's arm. She looked very grateful. He is a true gentleman: attentive, corteous, warm.

Very jolly of Charles to do that. The media took note of that. :flowers::flowers:

For me personally, the most disappointing aspect of today was the at times truly abysmal and shoddy camera work. They missed so many important elements in favour of random and prolonged focus on guests(and not even on the main RBF) who unfortunately lacked the necessary poise to consider the event they were at. The curtsy and bow, the kiss in the carriage, etc, etc.

Did y'all notice the ululating as they walked out of the church? I have always loved ululating for celebrations, and I wondered whether these were professional ululaters or what.

Yes, you're right of course. I didn't really look at the seating chart. It looked like she didn't have many guests of her own, then, except for the girlfriends so her side must have been "beefed up" a bit. Although, obviously, many of Harry's frinds must have become her friends, too now.

Were Hugh and Rose van Cutsem there?

He really showed a lot of care and tenderness with Doria. She must have been feeling like "the cheese stands alone" what with her ex-husband bailing out and her former stepchildren acting fools in the tabloids. He treated her well but not in a condescending way at all.

Amen to that. Is the church really that dark inside? Everything was beautiful but it felt like the wedding was taking place much later in the day.

That was so beautifully said and such a warm thoughtful thing to say. I totally agree with you for Charles is the ultimate gentleman of all seasons to me. I truly admire him for a long time now and the way he showed care and concern for Doria showed me his true character. We all should have mothers like Doria .........:flowers:

I'll be brutally honest....I've never liked Charles....for a lot of reasons. Mostly having to do with Diana. Also he has a serious case of "foot-in-mouth" disease. But I won't express these here because those are for another thread and place, so to speak.

But occasionally he does show that he is not totally a bad "egg," like this time.

Credit on him on doing what he did.

Yes, I completely agree!

Loves:

Harry and the deep love he couldn't hold in for her. The little looks between them. Meghan squeezing Harry with her thumb when she wasn't quite sure where the preacher was going with the "Fire" part of the sermon (lol). Blink and you missed that moment, but my friends and I (who are used to that kind of preaching) howled with laughter as we've "been there" with many a preacher, lol.

Harry pulling her veil down when they were on the steps, lol. Honestly everything Harry.

Harry grinning wickedly when Meghan said "and honor you with my body..." Heh...

Also - EVERYTHING Doria.

Meghan's gown and accessories. I love that she stuck to her clean and modern architectural style. I'd been plugging a similar gown in the gown thread for a while now and her gown was very much like what I thought of - the only difference was that Meghan did a refined modified A-line. But wow so regal. And that tiara!!! Whew!

I loved the flowers - just gorgeous - with the white flowers being a tribute to Diana. And the abundance of them was spectacular without being over the top and ostentatious. Just gorgeous. It made them look like they grew in place in the Chapel. And the entryway having them and then the stairs lined with them - WOW. That felt like a Cinderella moment with Harry leading Meghan down the stairs - my God.

When Meghan and Harry came out and the guards by the flowers did that sweep thing with their swords, I got chills. I mean CHILLS! Whew. That was amazing.

The kids were adorable. The Litt twins - especially the one who got so overcome with excitement at the trumpet fanfare - were ADORBS. I loved them holding Meghan's veil - they were SO PROUD and so excited to do their jobs. I loved that.

The CELLIST? OMG he was simply amazing and just wonderful.

The music in general was incredible. When Meghan entered and the soprano sang, I cried. I did.

I LOVED the rendition of Stand By Me - I was pleasantly surprised, since I wanted a real Gospel Song - but it was lovely. When they went acapella on it, I went into praise mode and threw my hands up.

Charles taking Meghan the rest of the way.

The screaming crowds and the procession.

I laughed at the driver speeding through the Long Walk - apparently Meghan was running behind so they had to make up time - but man - they were FLYING and kicking up dust behind the Rolls Royce...

I loved seeing Camilla and Lady Sarah Chatto - since I met both of them, ;)

Special Guest Star: Tyrone the horse cutting up on the processional up The Long Walk

All in all I adored this wedding. A true fairytale. Also loved Meghan and Harry leaving for Frogmore and the Fireworks.

Let me add one more thing in case it has not been discussed----I spent most of the day attending to business.)

Now we know why Oprah invited Doria to her estate. It was not for an "interview," but probably to get Doria to put in a good word to the Royal Family and event planners so she could be invited. After all, she "represents" the black community, does she not? She just HAS to be where the action is. Even thogh she probably does not know anyone in the BRF.

Also----anecdote----my mother was with me when Oprah walked in---she took a look at Oprah and said "That dress looks WAAAAAYYYYYY too tight on her!!!!!" ?

LOL.

She did like the hat.

There’s a connection between Meghan and Oprah that we aren’t aware of. Has to be because the invites went out prior to the supposed meeting with Doria. So...Oprah couldn’t just finagle an invite because she was nice to her mom.

Two negatives:

1) Victoria Beckham looked nice in her dress----but can she just muster just a tiny bit of willpower to TRY to smile, please? LOL.
David looked nice in his morning suit, though.

2) Did you notice that woman with the hideous hat comprised of two ostrich-like feathers topped on top the fascinator/hat.? Even the BBC people noticed it and made fun of it.

And Oprah was commented on, as well.
Aside from that, basically I loved everything----even Curry. ??

True fairy-tale indeed. :flowers::flowers:

Did not know that. Thanks for the correction. :flowers::flowers:

I loved that the junior bridesmaids/flower girls and page boys outfits mirrored the Bride and Groom.

I just find that statement really sad, she had to fill the empty seats on her side with his friends.

Some of the singers did too I think? The boys choir? Did I imagine that?

No! I've seen other posters commenting on her..I have to find a picture! It sounds hideous!

I did not see this. When did it happen?

Photo

That happened after they came through the gates of Windsor Castle on the Long Walk. They were out of the view of those that lined the street. I thought I saw Meghan lean over when I was watching from Today's live stream, but one of the military member on horse was blocking my view.

I didn't - I'll have to go back to one of my 4 recordings (ha!) and look.

Yes, I know of course. What I meant is that Elton John was a friend of his mother and he may respect that, but they probably aren't pals! I don't think they have a consistent, close, relationship. (I hope I've explained myself. It's getting late and it's been a long day!!)

It lacked oomph for a BRF wedding. Other than Harry in uniform this could have been the wedding of a minor cousin.

Even the vows. “ I Harry take you Meghan”.? What’s up with that.

In 2011 it was “I William Arthur Philip Louis, take thee Catherine Elizabeth”.
Harry and Meghan had the wedding they wanted. William and Catherine had their choices. Different people, different roles.

I just find that statement really sad, she had to fill the empty seats on her side with his friends.

Well to be fair - # of friends doesn't always equate to quality of friends? And she could have pulled up some more friends from the Nave but she didn't.
