Anne of France/Anne de France

Another formidable French Regent was Anne de France,Duchess de Bourbon who was a daughter of Louis XI and after his death,Regent of France for her brother,Charles VIII. I believe Anne was the only daughter of a French King to ever be appointed Regent of the Kingdom.

Anne was born at the Chateau of Genappe in Brabant on 3 April 1461, the eldest surviving daughter of King Louis XI of France and Charlotte of Savoy. Her brother, Charles would later succeed their father as Charles VIII of France. Her younger sister Joan became for a brief period, a queen consort of France as the first wife of Louis XII.

Anne who had a formidable reputation and was again appointed Regent of France by her brother Charles VIII of France during his Italian Campaigns in the mid 1490's.
This act greatly caused great upset to his wife Anne of Brittany who withdrew from court at this slight.

King Louis never named Anne official regent. The French court and foreign emissaries respected her position.

It was the king's express wishes that Anne act as Regent for the 13 year old Charles VIII.
Anne was a formidable Regent between 1483 to 1491 and put down several revolts by the nobility and also ended the War with Brittany by arranging the marriage of Charles VIII and Anne de Bretagne in 1491.
