Today the world has embraced new royal Princesses in the form of Mary of Denmark and Maxima of the Netherlands. But it's questionable whether even these hugely popular, increasingly glamorous future Queens will ever capture the world's imagination in the same way as Diana.

... I think some of the best pictures were taken when Diana was on tour outside of Britain ... I think that non-British children, because they didn't see her in their papers or on the news everyday (& often didn't even know who she was), could act more naturally around her ... this probably in turn allowed the princess to relax more ...
These are all pictures from foreign tours (from Corbis/Getty)
This was the first gown that the public got to see Diana wear.
It was taken in early November 1980 at a private party to celebrate Princess Margaret's birthday. Most pictures taken of Diana at this event show her outside wearing a dark brown day coat over this gown. It looked funny - here she was wearing a plain coat over what looked to be a beautiful pink gown and she was also wearing some fancy gold or silver shoes too. I guess that at this point, she was still a "regular" girl who didn't wear gowns often enough to justify the purchase of a fancier evening coat. That would all soon change ...
thankyou yennie for the wonderful pictures, esp the one taken on the birthday party of princess Margaret. Diana did wear a brown coat on the top of this fancy dress as squidgy said. and jane ficher ( I am not sure about the spellings of her name ) who latter photographed Diana through out her life almost, made the comment that ....we the photographers could not beleive that this girl could be the Diana spencer, she was shy and very much a country girl with big pink cheeks.
n more pix..........if anyone knows about the first 2 pix ...please share with me where were they taken and if you are having other pix of her taken on the same ocassion ...it will be a feast for us all diana fans.
enjoy !!!!
Thanks so much for the pictures Kiren.:)
I believe the first picture (Charles in tuxedo; Diana in white blouse & satin skirt) was taken on the evening of the day they announced their engagement (Feb 24 1981). Diana & Charles had dinner with the Queen Mom (& I think with Diana's grandmother, Lady Fermoy) at Clarence House that evening.
2 very very personal's pictures. the first is my birthday this year's cake, the secund is my frent door in my home the day cahrles and camilla's wedding.
