British Royal Family Engagements 2019

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
I will return to doing the 'Future Engagements' Tally next week as the British monarchy website is so slack it still hasn't updated since 4th May meaning I have nothing to add since the last such update.

Le sigh, le mew. This is a reference to Pepe le Pew's choice of female, Penelope Pussycat (https://looneytunes.fandom.com/wiki/Penelope_Pussycat) in a fit of ennui. She did languor very well, until Pepe showed up.

Languor and ennui permeate delivery of the Court Circular, these days. Imagine what it will be like when summer actually arrives!

IluvBertie-Thank you for continuing this tally in spite of the ongoing issues with the online CC.

Fortunately I was directed to a more reliable site (although it too had its issues a week or so back and didn't update for a number of days).

The British Monarch Website has now updated to the 27th May.

Weekly Update to 23rd May, 2019

After a two week period in which there were many engagements this past week was a lot quieter, which is probably a good thing considering next week has the State Visit, with Trooping, Garter and Ascot in the weeks after that so lots of royal watching to look forward to.

Anne was overseas this week with a quick visit to Estonia while Andrew finished his visit to Canada and Harry went to Italy. It was great to see Andrew undertaking duties in regard to Lakefield College which was the Canadian school he attended in the late 1970s. We all know that Charles spent some time at school in Australia, but I think many people forget that Andrew had the same experience in Canada. Edward’s was slightly different as he didn’t go to New Zealand as a student but as a ‘duty master’ or the person in charge of the boarding house on weekends and at night (some of the best ‘teenager-adult’ relationship I developed in my years at boarding school were with the duty mistresses at my school and my brother often speaks highly of some of his duty masters … and others were quite forgettable). Andrew always undertakes one or two engagements per year for Lakefield and always when he actually visits Canada.

Princesses Beatrice and Michael made their first appearance in the CC this week – at afternoon parties with The Queen.

Milestones achieved this fortnight: NONE

Approaching a milestone: Sophie is now in the 90s where she has been joined by The Duke of Kent.

Weekly Update to 6th June, 2019

A busy week with a State Visit and the D-Day commemorations. The lunch on the first day of the State Visit was not recorded in the CC so it wasn’t an official engagement for any of the royals who attended (and most did).

Other than The Queen, Charles, Camilla and Andrew had the most to do with The President, which is fairly normal.

Anyone who watched the events from D-Day in France may have noticed Tim there but no mention in the CC (I half expected that it would be recorded as The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall were received by Vice-Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence Vice President of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission but they didn’t. I suspect if the Duke of Kent had been there that is how it would be been recorded.)

Milestones achieved this week: Both Sophie and the Duke of Kent reached their centuries during this week.

Weekly Update to 13th June, 2019

This week included the full family on the balcony of Buckingham Palace for Trooping the Colour. Will any of us forget the enthusiasm of Louis first appearance up there and that dear wave he gave to his grandfather as they were turning to leave the balcony. Andrew looked proud as punch with the performance of the Grenadier Guards and so he should have been. It was also nice to see the Duke of Kent in the carriage with Beatrice, Eugenie and Jack and then seated beside the Queen at the actual ceremony now that he, like the Queen, doesn’t ride to Trooping anymore.

A note about Louise and James. They did appear in the CC but I didn’t put them on the main page of my spreadsheet (yes I have Jack and Tim there as husbands) and so they aren’t counted in the total count. I will therefore be putting their Trooping appearance under ‘unofficial engagements’ but with asterisks. I hope people understand.

Sophie has been making the first ever visit to Lebanon by a member of the BRF although there seems to be virtually no coverage of that event – typical of the work of the minor royals sadly.

Milestones achieved this week: NONE

Approaching a milestone: Charles is approaching his triple century for the year (294 so far)

Weekly Update to 20th June, 2019

This week saw a large turn-out for the Garter Day and then the five days of Ascot. A few notes are needed: The CC listed all those who attended the Garter Chapter Meeting and the subsequent lunch. It did not list who attended the church service. As William and Catherine didn’t attend the first two activities they weren’t recorded as attending the day at all as there was no separate listing for the church service. Going back through the CC this is normal – the chapter and lunch attendees listed but not the church service.

In addition it needs to be noted that although we saw many members of the BRF only the Queen attends in an official capacity and so none of the others were ‘at work’ when they went to the races.

It is interesting to note that at the end of this week the Duke of Kent was once again an on overseas visit – this time to Serbia (not bad for a 83 year old man). This will be his 4th overseas trip this year. He really does epitomise duty when we realise he missed his niece’s wedding due to being overseas and now he is off again.

Andrew had lunch with the Vice Premier of China which the papers reported as occurring at Royal Lodge but the CC doesn’t state where the lunch took place. I have therefore taken the decision to record it as happening at Royal Lodge rather than at BP.

Milestones achieved this week: Charles is now over 300 engagements for the year.

Approaching a milestone: Richard is approaching his century (93) while Birgitte is on her way to her half-century (41)

Weekly Update to 27th June, 2019

Sorry for the delay. There have been two reasons 1. The slowness of the CC being available. I only got the 27th June yesterday and 2. The Australian flu season. To all Aussies out there – don’t get it. It is awful (and yes I was vaccinated but as my doctor told me the vaccine only protects against about 40 – 50% of the flu strains around this season. His recommendation has been at least two weeks bed-rest and then back to see him to see whether more bed-rest is needed.

This week saw a few interesting things. Charles and Camilla were in Scotland (well Charles understood engagements there for the last four days of the week and Camilla on the first of those four days). William again undertook duties associated with the Duchy of Cornwall. He has done more, officially, with that Duchy this year than Charles. Anne made a flying visit to France with an engagement in both England and France on the same day, while the Duke of Kent continued his visit to Serbia.

The other thing I found interesting is that Anne carried out an engagement at Frogmore House. There is certainly a broader range of ‘royal’ palaces being used for engagements it seems this year, presumably because of the refurbishment at BP, but even so there are still many engagements taking place there as well.

Milestones achieved this week: Richard reached his century during this past week.

Approaching a milestone: Birgitte is still on her way to her half-century (42) while Alexandra is also approaching her half-century (44)

Royals who have Official Meetings with Politicians, including Ambassadors and High Commissioners to 27th June, 2019

NOTE – I have 10 pages for this sort of thing, such as Overseas Politicians both in their own countries and in the UK. It seems that some weeks I miss one or two pages in doing the count which is why the figures this week won’t look right – some people, for some reason, had an four entries for Mr Trump’s visit when, on a recount they should have only had 3. I hope I have it right now.

When they are in Scotland they are the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay and this was a typical week for Charles at least with engagements at Dumfries House taking place most days.

Sorry for the delay this week but I have a serious health issue. I, and my doctor, thought I had the flu but as it wasn't getting any better we did further tests and found that I have fluid around the heart and in my lungs. I am under strict instructions to only get out of bed for absolutely essential things and I have to go and see him every three to four days for a new ultra sound to see how things are going. So far there has been no change.

I'm so sorry to hear this. There is nothing more important than taking care of yourself, and if positive thoughts help at all, I know there are a lot of people on this forum who will be sending them your way, including me. Hoping for your quick recovery, Iluvbertie.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery Bertie.

I'm echoing all the positive thoughts and prayers being sent your way. As much as the weekly update of what the British royals have been up to has become an important report for all of us to read here at TRF, you are even more important to us as a friend and source of such a wealth of information.

Keep us updated as to how you're doing, snuggle with your furbaby and heed the advice of your doctor.

Update.

I have just had 10 days in hospital and am not back at home still under instructions to rest.

I developed pneumonia which has only compounded the heart issues. The lastest ultra sound is still showing fluid around the heart although none now in the lungs.

I am steadily working through the engagements and hope to get a week up later today or tomorrow and will keep working on this ... I actually find this relaxing as well. Coming into August has the advantage as well of many days with no engagements as it is the slowest month of the year usually.

That's one way to assure you get breakfast in bed. Not overly recommended but it *is* a perk of being in the hospital. Over the past months, I've been really impressed here as the entire hospital system has WiFi access for anyone that needs it. Too bad I can't carry my desktop with me. Just get a lot of rest, listen to what the doctors tell you and no rollerblading in the hallways. :D

It is a slow time of the year as now the Queen is off to Balmoral (or will be) after getting things in order with her new Prime Minister and new appointments to positions.

My thoughts are with you.
