October 1, 2010 - TRH Prince Joachim and Princess Marie participating in the annual celebration of Southern University, Campusvej 55, Odense, at. 16.00.

It has taken some time, but here are finally some pics of Marie and Joachim
at the university event in Odense on October 1st:

On October 12, Prince Joachim and Princess Marie have attended the presentation
of the Linde diplomas in Tønder. These diplomas are awarded by the Linde Committee
to citizens who have made an extraordinary effort for Tønder's development.

This year one of the three winners has been Søren Frederiksen, former estate manager
of Schackenborg. Following the tradition he had to water the linden tree on the market
place with beef blood.

I grew up with Abba and eventhough it wasn't my first choice of music back then, all the sweet girls listened to Abba, so...
I've grown fond of Abba since then.
Wonder if it's the same with Joachim.
In an interview he once stated that he sometimes liked liked some really heavy rock!
Alexandra, standing beside him, did not appreciate that kind of music!

It was the Danish premiere for the Abba musical. Mamma Mia. There was some apprehension beforehand as the lyrics have been converted to Danish. Incidentally by Sanne Salomonsen, whom Mary and Frederik know pretty well. (*)
The mood was high and at the end Björn and Agnetha went on stage to recieve the applaus of the audience.
Joachim and our Marie were also there and afterwards Joachim told our reporter: "It's been a super experinece and we'd had a really fun time". (**)
La Marie added: "You really want to dance and eventhough I didn't know the Danish lyrics, I could easily recognice the songs".

(*) Being the Rock-Mama in DK and having written many songs herself, she appears to have done a very good job with the songs. Dedicated Abba fans are apparantly pretty pleased with the result.

(**) DK lesson: Sjovt = Fun/funny. Skægt = fun/funny, just stronger. A really great time!

Joachim is right now busy opening a national park in the wadden sea, almost net door to Schackenborg. I suggest you take a look at the news paper: Jydske Vestkysten.

Oh I love the pictures of Joachim and Marie together with Björn and Agnetha. It's wonderful to see two of the Abbas.

I have to say that, although I'm a big fan of CP Mary, Princess Marie has really started shining through these last few months. I feel like we're at last seeing the real Marie who is happy, confident, and very very sweet. More power to her and long may she stay this way!

I guess this belongs in this tread and I post it hoping that the article and the picture to the article will eventually surface on the BB site.

A note in Billed Bladet #42, 2010 tells about and show how our Marie reacted when she tasted their own schnapps, called Egesnaps = Oak Schnapps.
The fair Marie had a glass at the Square in Tønder, the town close to Schackenborg, when they were toasting in honor of the former overseer/caretaker/steward of Schackenborg Manor.
She is obviously not used to drinking schnapps, or more correctly a bitter, also called a "bjesk" (dramm) in one of the Jutlandic dialects. In the hilarious photo to the article her face is virtually imploding!

For those of you who are not used to drinking schnapps, it consists of a glass containing 2-3 centilitres of spirits, about 42-48% which you gulp down in one go.
Now a bitter/bjesk has a stronger and more sharp taste than an ordinary schnapps, hence the name bitter.
In recognition of the fact that many younger women, around the Marie's age, don't really like that strong spirits, the breweries have launched a number of lady-scnappses. Often with a taste of lemon and at 25%.

Personally I love a schnapps! Am not that keen on a bjesk - yet. Probably because my taste buds are not yet completely destroyed.

A few comments:
It's windy today, as you can tell from the pics!
Notice the sign next to the Dannebrog flying in the wind. It says: "Æ parksti", that's dialect for "parkstien" = the park lane. - They are not without humor down there...

While J&M were inaugurating the new cultural house, a member of a TV satire show called: The New Talkshow, ran around and asked (annoyed) the other journalists present as to whether it's appropriate to ask Joachim questions.
After which she proceeded to read aloud a poem about the Goldhorns (*), a very long poem indeed! Until Joachim interrupted her. Then she several times attempted to hug Joachim, and he said several times: "Thank you, I said"!
Personally I find the humor displayed in the programme very odd indeed. Another member of that show, perhaps the same as above, recently asked a completely idiotic question to the PM during his weekly pressmeeting. Leading to the political reporters present to scold her loudly!

(*) The Goldhorns. They were two magnificent prehistoric horns of gold, which were found around 1800.
Alas they were stolen and melted.
What we have now are copies, these are nevertheless considered national treasures, due to high level of craftmanship and because such horns are unique.
As such it's very appropriate that a cultural centre is named after these horns.

Oh no, it´s the same reporter... It was also her., who got arrested at a policestation, because she brougt knifes and such with her while she was interviewing Politichefen.

Correct. The old barn is a protected building and it belongs to Schackenborg Manor.
