1719: Felipe Pedro of Spain, Infante of Spain, son of Felipe V dies
1833: Queen Regent Maria Cristina marries morganatic and secret marriage to Fernando Muñoz, guard of corps.
1874: In Sagunto, Arsenio Martínez Campos proclaims Alfonso XII.

1861: Fernando de Borbón y Braganza dies.
1871: King Amadeo of Savoy solemnly swears the Constitution.
1918: A fire in the Royal Palace of La Granja de San Ildefonso (Segovia) destroys numerous works of art.

The Dowager Countess of Barcelona was residing at the Royal Residence of La Mareta on Lanzarote where they Spanish RF had gathered to spend Christmas that year.

24th of January 1336 : Death of Alfonso IV of Aragon


Alfonso IV who was king of Aragon & Count of Barcelona and Urgell from 1227 until his death .The king is buried at the Cathedral of Lleida alongside his second queen ,Eleanor of Castile.

Marie Louise d'Orléans was a granddaughter of both Louis XIII of France and Charles I of England.The queen's death was unexpected and left her husband heartbroken.

She was the first wife of Carlos II, the last Habsburg king of Spain. Carlos II's inability to have children led eventually to the accession of the Bourbon dynasty to the Spanish throne, which was contested in the War of the Spanish Succession (1701-1714).


Although already past its peak, Spain at that time was still a major European power and the seat of what was then probably the world's largest empire.

The Queen died at Saldaña de Burgos and is buried at the Basílica de San Isidoro de León in León.

Surprisingly his mother Juana Enriquez de Córdoba was the daughter of a Spanish Count who's father was an illegitimate child of Alfonso XI of Castile.
