After a little over a month's garden exhibition on Solliden, where balconies with a hemester theme were displayed, there was a royal award ceremony on Öland on Saturday.
In really pressing heat, the exhibitors stood next to the balconies they created earlier this summer. Since the inauguration in June, many visitors have wandered around Solliden's park. Maybe they got inspiration, found their favorite balcony and put their vote on it.
- You can take ideas from facilities like this and be inspired, says King Carl XVI Gustaf who handed out the various prizes.
What would a balcony look like if it was decorated by the king?
- Oh, it was difficult to answer. I have never thought about that, above all it would probably take a very long time to figure out what it would look like, he says.
At the video:
Queen Silvia: It is difficult with a home holiday. There is a place here where they have picked up memories on the balcony. Then you can sit there and read a book and think back on how it has been.
King Carl Gustaf: You can bring ideas from facilities like this to build your own little garden or whatever you have now. Not everyone may have gardens and balconies and so on. You have to take what you have. You can pick from nature the flowers that are available. There are all possibilities.
Queen Silvia: There are many ideas to take home here.

King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia visit... - Swedish Press Agency _ Facebook

King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia have broken their long corona isolation.
During their first official visits in eight months, the royal couple met doctors and researchers - and discussed the use of mouth guards, writes Dagens Nyheter.
- We must continue to hold on now, the king tells the newspaper.
During a visit to Karolinska University Hospital, Queen Silvia discusses the use of masks.
- I think many want to know why we are not recommended to wear them, because there are demands on them in so many other countries, she says, according to DN.
The Queen receives the answer that the mask according to the Public Health Agency's assessment does not provide sufficient protection, that on the contrary it is difficult to use.
- I do not think it seems that anyone can explain that so that you actually understand, the king says then and shakes his head, writes DN.
Among the stops were also Karolinska Institutet and the Swedish National Defence University. The royal couple also met Björn Ulvaeus and Jonas Abrahamsson, CEO of Swedavia, to discuss the impact of the corona crisis on the tourism and hospitality industry.
The royal couple has largely lived in quarantine at Stenhammar's castle outside Flen since February.
They have worked by phone and video link. Like many others over the age of 70, they have not met their grandchildren.
- A friendly neighbor has shopped for us. Otherwise, we have taken care of ourselves and tried to be careful, says Queen Silvia.

Queen Silvia's blue jacket does not fit. What's going on?

At their county visit on Monday the king and queen spoke about masks.

State epidemiologist Anders Tegnell has a clear message to give the king.
One issue that is as controversial as it is hotly debated is the face masks. In many countries, they are mandatory, while Sweden has chosen a more liberal approach to the measure. Queen Silvia took the opportunity to ask the medical expertise on site in Karolinska after a small factual background to the Public Health Agency's sometimes questioned recommendation.
The king questioned the explanation
- I think many want to know why we are not recommended to wear them, because there are demands on them in so many other countries, Silvia said according to Dagens Nyheter.
The doctors argued that masks often increase the risk of infection, even though the intention is the opposite. It made the king shake his head. He was not happy.
- I don't think it seems that anyone can explain that so that you actually understand, said His Majesty.
Anders Tegnell answers the king
Now the king has received an answer directly from Anders Tegnell. Expressen had a chat with the Public Health Agency's state epidemiologist and passed on our regent's wonder. Finally, the king got the answer to his question: why don't we in Sweden wear masks?
- Because it is much more important that we keep our distance. If we just keep our distance, we don't need a mask. The effect of masks when we are close to each other is difficult to evaluate. There are no good studies on it. And we must remember that several of the countries that have a very large spread of infection have had legislation on masks for long periods. So it is quite obvious that the masks will not save us from the pandemic. In general in society, they don't seem to have a great effect, says Anders.

A nice gesture of the K and Q. Some really want to abolish History, and not want to be reminded of, maybe because it reminds people, how cruel man can be to man?.

The King and Queen had today a digital meeting with representatives from the Swedish Civil Protection Association.
Chairman Georgios Kontorinis and secretary general Tomas Warberg told about the Association's work during the covid-19 pandemic. The Ernest Cassel mentioned is the good friend of and financial advisor to Edward VII who later became the grandfather of Edwina Mountbatten.
Cassel became very rich, partly because of large investments made in Swedish railways and mines, and made large donations to improve the life of the workers in the Swedish mining districts. He had a portrait painted by his friend Anders Zorn in 1906.

The king laughed.
