Which Royals Are Good Friends?

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
According to Queen Maxima biographer. the friendship of Queen Maxima & Queen Letizia of Spain & Queen Rania of Jordan "polite" is the word, not a close relationship like other royals, that is according to the biographer.

To be fair Queen Letizia doesn't have much interaction with the other European royals unless she's accompanying her husband the King who's related to most of them.

Former Queen Beatrix has a very good relationship with the Spanish RF and attended the Funeral of the king's late aunt,The Infanta Pilar in January 2020.

During the Japanese enthronement celebrations cameras caught Queen Letizia telling Crown Princess Victoria how much she liked the social media postings of the family and how they had to get together soon (during the summer, I believe) if possible which to me says that the two families are friendly with each other. She also seemed to get along splendidly with Prince Daniel and the King and Queen during the state visit last year although, of course, what we saw were them on the job and not them in private.

I think Prince Charles gets on well with Queen Letizia

The relatoinship between the British RF and the Norway RF is close. As is the relationship between the BRF and the Greeks.

The Greeks are close with members of the Spanish Royal Family though I don't think we'll ever see Queen Letizia and the Greek Crown Princess thaw the ice!

Queen Sofia is also very close friend to princess Beatrix of the Netherlands, according to the Dutch royal magazines, princess Beatrix sometimes bring a private visit to Spain to see the Spanish royals & some of the Spanish noble families are close to the Dutch royals.
Every year the king & queen & their daughters have a private holidays to Sevilla.

Not sure what your source is for that story. The king and queen met in Sevilla and went back with their family to celebrate knowing each other for 20 years but that's quite different from 'going on a private holiday to the city every single year'.

Nonetheless, the Dutch royal family has made private visits to Spain including to members of the Spanish royal family (for example their visit to Iñaki and Cristina a long long time ago - when they still lived in Spain).

The Dutch royal family seems to have close ties with the late Prince Kardam of Bulgaria and his spouse Miriam Ungría y López.

The large contingent (King, Queen, Princess Beatrix, Princess Laurentien) travelling to Madrid for the funeral of the Prince of Turnovo was a surprise. No one knew that the royal couple apparently was so close to Kardam and Miriam.

Willem-Alexander and Maxima seem to be friends (or at least friendly) with everyone. It probably helps to be quite gregarious.

Ingrid Alexandra and Amalia are also very good friends.

What is the matter with Letizia and Marie-Chantal?

Just get or buy the biography books about the Dutch royal family, specially Queen Maxima books (5), in one of them was the story about the friendships of queen Maxima & the European royals! So far I have about 30 biographies & photo books of the the Dutch royals.

What is the matter with Letizia and Marie-Chantal?

Marie-Chantal publicly commented on the rift (after the Easter service a few years ago) between queen Sophia and queen Letizia; and that wasn't flattering for Letizia...

Felipe and Pavlos, as first cousins, are meant to have been very close, a closeness not shred by their wives from quite early on.

Irrespective of what may or many not have been correct, I thought M-C's comments were completely inappropriate, and should never have been put out in the public domain, esepcially when dealing with two Queens.

Interesting. So to see this was a diner in the private villa of the royal couple at the Royal Domain De Horsten in Wassenaar (near The Hague). We never see the royal family of Bulgarian or the family of the Maharaja of Jaipur at official events but apparently this does not mean there are no friendships with them.

Princess Diya Kumari even writes in her Facebook post that "Old friendships are the best friendships" so I guess that they go way back.

The entire Easter Sunday Mass was hugely embarrassing but then for Crown-Princess MC to publicly dis Letizia in a tweet about showing her 'True Colours' was a step too far.

I agree. There was no need for M-C to have commented publicly. She has clearly burnt her bridges badly with that comment.

As if by coincidence the titular Maharaja of Jaipur and his grandmother the Queen Mother Padmini Devi visited the Prince of Wales at Highgrove a few days ago. As shown both in text and in photos it seems that Charles and the Jaipurs have been close for a very long time.

According to the royalwatcher Charles is Padmanabh's godfather.

All the Scandinavian Crown Prince Couples are very close
Crown Princess Victoria/Prince Daniel
Crown Prince Haakon/Crown Princess Mete-Merrit
Crown Prince Frederik/Crown Princess Mary

Crown Prince Frederik/Crown Princess Mary are very good friends with King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima - Just this the Danish CP Couple were guests of the Dutch Royal Couple at the palace during their Danish Royal Visit leading a business delegation.

Queen Mathilde and Crown Princess Mary are close - evidenced by how just a few years ago Queen Mathilde indicated that she has private visits, including with her goddaughter Princess Isabella.

The European Royals are all friends to varying degrees as evidenced by how they attended each other's birthday celebrations and anniversaries, etc.

And there is a difference between being close friends that do things outside royal events and those that are cordial and friendly in more or less professional settings.

I don't make up stories about friendships of royals and my sources as you suggest are from reading royal biographies, including of queen Maxima! (attention for "somebody")

My sources are reading royal biographies, including the Dutch royal Family.

While it is easy to condemn M-C it is obvious that the relationship between the rest of the family and the SRF seems to have survived quite well and some of them are actually close friends.

While I agreed with M-C's passionate outburst, I felt going public was very ill-advised. However, we have to remember that she was talking about a beloved Aunt and that Letizia's behaviour was both public and incredibly hurtful.

I'd love to read the quote and the title of the specific book and author which states that the Dutch royals visit Sevilla every single year :flowers: Asking me to read all biographies of the Dutch royal family without specifying in which this specific claim can be found, isn't that helpful I'm afraid. I don't doubt that you read many books but some sources are more trustworthy than others, so I look forward to the specifics. As you may know, TRF encourages people to back up their claims or opinions with reputable sources.

Any other specific mentions of royal friendships are of course also appreciated! Most are well-known (to royal watchers) but I wouldn't be surprised if some go relatively unnoticed.

Se og Hør royal household expert Caroline Vagle spoke about Prince Haakon and Princess Victoria's friendship.
This ties in with Prince Haakon and Princess Victoria's visit to Kenya.
"- Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Victoria have a very close relationship. Victoria has stated that she regards Haakon as her older brother. They have been good friends for several years and benefit greatly from their relationship as colleagues as well. After all, both will become monarchs one day" says Vagle to Dagbladet and adds:
"Their spouses and children are also close to each other and meet whenever the opportunity presents itself. These close bonds are obvious when you see them together, as we saw in the pictures in Kenya. There is no doubt that they enjoy each other's company. other!"

I would add Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary to this group. They are all very close. Victoria has also called Frederik someone she sees as an older brother.

:previous: Yes, I remember reading about them representing their countries visiting shared interests in the Arctic region. The geography of their countries has meant they, as heirs to their respective thrones have been involved in all sorts of different projects together with Fredrik of Denmark. Over time they became de-facto siblings and each share a common destiny that will serve them in years to come.

Yes, Victoria and Daniel are also close to Frederik and Mary. But their friendship with Haakon and Mette-Marit is different, much more public. The Swedish royal court has published photos of Victoria and Daniel skiing with Haakon and Mette-Marit, they have been seen together at various places in Sweden and Norway close to the ski resorts. And the court published a photo from Gotland in September 2021 when Victoria, Daniel and their children had invited Haakon, Mette-Marit and Ingrid Alexandra to spend a weekend with them.

Plus they are much more closely related (Victoria and Frederik and Crown Prince Haakon) than some royals of this generation so the sibling relationship is understandable.

Yes, they have been close for years and QEQM and the late Queen Elizabeth were friends with his step grandmother, Maharani Gayatri Devi of Jaipur nee Princess of Cooch Behar (third wife of his great-grandfather, Man Singh II) who was a polo player and horse lover like the late Queen herself. Yes, Padmanabh Singh is Charles’s godson and a few years ago, he was invited to the then Prince of Wales’s birthday at BP.

The Scandi royals-Denmark, Sweden and Norway-seem to treat one another as family. It's really fun to watch them all together.

Pierre Casiraghi is good friends with Felix of Luxembourg. They attended each other's lavish weddings. Guillaume was on hand for Prince Albert's Enthronement ceremony in 2005 and I remember seeing a photo of Gui, Andrea and Pierre enjoying some type of sporting event at Stade Louis II during the week of the ceremony.

Speaking of Guillaume, before his marriage he seemed to enjoy a brother/sister type closeness with CP Victoria of Sweden, and the same with Mette-Marit of Norway.

No idea if he is still that close to the two of them but he certainly was at one point.

Princess Caroline of Hanover is good friends with GD Henri of Luxembourg....I have seen old photos of them socializing in their late teens/early 20's. At Albert's wedding night gala Henri and MT were seated at the family table.. Henri and Caroline were in animated conversation at one point.

During the lifetime of their late Majesties Baudouin and Fabiola of Belgium they were quite good friends with the Japanese Imperial family. Baudouin and Fabiola hosted the Japanese royals at their summer home Villa Astrid in Spain on several occasions. The frail Empress of Japan made the long journey to Belgium for Fabiola's funeral and made a memorable, striking impression on everyone. Baudouin and Fabiola were also very close to Juan Carlos and Sofia of Spain. The two couples went sailing together almost every summer in the 1960's and 1970's.
Baudoin and Fabiola were very close to the Emperor and Empress Emeritus because it was King Baudoin who carried messages from Emperor Akihito to Empress Michiko when she was in Belgium and it makes sense why the Empress herself went to Queen Fabiola’s funeral.

:previous: I am not sure that they do "look down" on the Grimaldi anymore....Albert is invited to every single major Royal event as were his parents Grace and Rainier.

Every remaining Royal house attended Grace's funeral and Rainier's as well.

The Grimaldis are "only" Serene Highnesses and not Royal highness but I think that counted for more in the past than it does now. All the Royal/Princely houses are an endangered, shrinking species. Every one of them has welcomed commoners into their midst.

None can claim superiority to any other these days-IMO.

In any case, Albert and his family are one of an extremely small handful of rulers who are not dependent upon the goodwill of press and public to stay on their thrones. They are wealthy beyond belief without taxing their subjects. They don't have to account for their time or the way they spend their money. They can do as they please, and that-as well as their glamour and the high drama of their lives- is exactly part of the reason I love watching them;).

I don't imagine they are losing any sleep about being "looked down upon" by the others if they indeed are.
I don’t think or know that the Grimaldis were necessarily looked down on when it came down to Grace and Rainier (I know Queen Frederica of Greece was no fan of them, particularly Grace), but in previous generations that was the case particularly in Queen Victoria’s time when she would never consider a match between one of her descendants and a Grimaldi because they made money from casinos. But these days, in spite of some of the news on them, they are always invited to events even when Grace and Rainier were on the throne.

I have noticed over the last 15 years that all the Crown Princely couples of Europe are quite close in friendships and know that they can gossip among themselves and their conversations remain Private. They got to know one another through weddings and their parents anniversary milestones and various jubilees as well as funerals and various State visits and occasions.

I see them as like an exclusive club. They all have a pre determined destiny to adhere to and sometimes it is not easy for them. I have found them to be all very delighted in one anothers company. Frederik, Haakon and Victoria share a very close bond like brothers and Victoria is their sister. The three have done a few things together.

When I said Europe we must include Guillaume of Luxembourg, Pavlos of Greece and Prince Gustav of Berleberg.
And Edward and Sophie of Wessex. The Wessexes attended nearly every single one of the weddings except for Pavlos and maybe Philippe of Belgium. As representatives of Queen Elizabeth. This couple know the current European royals very well.

King Felipe VI and his mother queen Sofia maintain close relations with a lot of the royal houses.
