I have no idea.. Im just going by what's said here. I think its obvious that they have to postpone it indefinteily.. its just common sense.

No-one can plan anything at the moment, unfortunately. Airlines and theatres are giving credit notes and saying you can book a flight for another date, or book a show that's due to be on later in the year, but who knows how it's going to pan out? I don't see that it really matters whether they said "cancelled" or "postponed" - they clearly still intend to get married some time, but they can't make plans at the moment. No-one can :-( .

They were probably waiting to see if the next stage might have been a slackening of the lockdown, possibly allowing some more guests. They were not going ahead with 5.
That didn't happen , they cannot issue the invitations, so they need to cancel.
Is there really anything unexpected with this.

What Christmas Stuff other than Christmas itself?
It does mean The Queen would have to come into London, an outside reception wouldn’t be ideal but there’s nothing to say it couldn’t happen.

Hard to predict as we never know when the pandemic will actually end.

They should just elope and do a celebration later on. If they want to be married, then be married.

Elope? Tthey can't get married at present until the rules change. WE don't know when the lockdown will be eased and marriages will gain be able to take place.

Eloping. Good concept. With lock downs and stay in place orders, they have a choice. The back yard, the patio, the kitchen, the storage closet. Anywhere but the living room which is the general purpose area.
Who knows though how they'll decide to do things once the world opens up again. They may opt to go ahead with the plans already in place or decide they want to do something totally different. Elope and get married on Necker Island with a small gathering and have a fait accompli and then throw a party. I think though that one determining factor for Beatrice is that she'll want her grandmother and grandfather there when she marries.

Why can't they get married? Literally nothing is stopping them.

Marriages aren’t taking place in the UK currently, they can’t elope anywhere. Nor can they leave the U.K. to get married in any other country.
The law is stopping them right now.

Other than the law of the land - the UK has banned all marriages at the moment.

Yes, all religious and cultural ceremonies including weddings and christenings are currently banned. Everything except funerals.
Once lockdown starts easing up the C of E might start weddings again but it will probably be along the lines of the 5 person maximum it was pre lockdown for a while.
They also can't leave the country to get married elsewhere and a couple of rich idiots have been caught trying to circumvent the rules in private planes.
All indications are they still want to get married when this is over so it's more like "postponed" but they don't have any concrete plans in place.

I stand corrected. I didn't realize it was completely banned there. That is unfortunate for them. Honestly once lifted I wouldn't waste any time.
I never got why people claimed it was "cancelled" like they decided they changed their mind. They still clearly plan on getting married.

I do think the use of the term 'cancelled' rather than 'postponed' is strange. One suggests it will never happen while the other it will happen but later. I assume that they have actually postponed the wedding rather than having actually cancelled the wedding - i.e. decided not to marry. I am sure if the latter that would have been announced so presumably they will marry sometime next year or later this year, if permitted to do so.

Its been banned for some weeks. There was a possibility for a short time that couples could marry if there were only 5 people tehre, includng the couple. If they'd been madly eager to marry they could have doen it privately then.. And so Im sure that they will wait till thngs are fully normal and they can have more than 2 people at their wedding.

At that point, they had no idea that the UK would ban all marriages from taking place, so there was little reason to hurry. Waiting seemed perfectly fine at that point (and they specifically made a point of not postponing the wedding itself (at least yet) but only the big party at that time). So far, it seems the UK is the only country completely banning marriages; so, not something that they would have expected.
