Thanks for posting. Does anyone know if this lucky Von und zu Eltz is of the same family that owns the stupendous Burg Eltz? If so, there will be no problem spending the Heineken fortune:|
The castle still belongs to the zu Eltz family, the current owner being Karl, Graf zu Eltz.
Stephanie and Karl appear to be second cousins once removed; Stephanie's great-grandfather and Karl's grandfather were brothers.

Stephania's great-grandfather was a brother of Karl's great-grandfather, thus Stephania and Karl are third cousins:
Friedrich (1823-1900) - Johann (1860-1906) - Karl (1896-1922) - Jakob (1921-2006) - Karl (194:cool:
Friedrich (1823-1900) - Erwein (1863-1936) - Peter (1909-1992) - Alexander (1947-) - Stephania (1984-)

On a different note, Stephania's paternal grandmother was Countess Henriette von und zu Eltz, who was born a Princess von und zu Liechtenstein (and who passed away last year); this means that Stephania is a first cousin once removed of the present Reigning Prince of Liechtenstein, Hans Adam II.

Thank you Mafan for the more detailed information. :flowers:
I appear to have missed one generation in Karl's ancestry.

Burg Eltz, Rhineland-Palatinate

As Burg Eltz has been mentioned, it's a good opportunity to add some pictures.
The castle is still owned by a branch of the same family that has lived there since the 12th century.
The current owner, Karl, Graf and Edler von Eltz, Faust von Stromberg, represents the 33rd generation to inhabit the family home.

Stolberg-Stolberg

Countess Elisabeth zu Stolberg-Stolberg died on 29 May, eight days after her 93rd birthday.

She was born at Innsbruck, Austria on 21 May 1919, the eldest of eight children of Archduchess Hedwig of Austria (1896-1970; granddaughter of Emperor Franz Josef I and Empress Sissi by their youngest daughter, Archduchess Valerie and her husband Archduke Franz Salvator of the Tuscan branch) and her husband, Count Bernhard zu Stolberg-Stolberg (1881-1952).

Athough she was the eldest, all of her younger siblings are deceased, except for the youngest, Countess Magdalena (b.1930), who married Martin, Baron von Kripp zu Prunberg und Krippach.

Countess Elisabeth leaves 15 nieces and 16 nephews with their families. One niece, one nephew and one great-niece predeceased her.

Countess Elisabeth never married and was later Mother Maria Bonifacia at the OSB Benedictine Mission.

It appears that there was a mistake about the date of death of Countess Marie Elisabeth; she didn't die on 29 May - as it was firstly reported - but on 9 June 2012 in Vanves (France).

The Countess was a Benedectine nun since 17 November 1951, under the name of Sister Marie-Boniface.
She has been a missionary in Vietnam for 21 years and in Madagascar for 9 years.
She has been ill since last October.

After all these death announcements I was afraid there is noone left of the German nobility. At least the Countess of Lehndorff Steinort is alive and kicking!

Today Bunte (a German Boulevard-Magazine) reported about just another "Prince" of Anhalt, adopted by the notorious husband of Zsa Zsa Garbor.

I was ready to stop reading about German nobility - but you saved my day.

Ursula Countess of Hochberg, née Countess of Schmettow, died on 20 October.

She was born at Potsdam on 4 November 1925 as a daughter of Lazarus Bernhard Gottfried, Count of Schmettow (1878-1967) & his wife, Marie Therese Freiin von Ketteler (1888-1948). In 1953 she married Karl Albrecht Heinrich Count of Hochberg (1912-1979).
She is survived by their four sons (and eleven grandchildren) the second of whom, Peter Konrad Friedrich, is apparently heir presumptive to the title Prince of Pless, the eldest son as well as his only son having apparently renounced their rights to the succession.

They both renounced in 2003. I wonder why. Its not as if they had married 'incorrectly' . Her eldest son married as his first wife, a von but the second son didn't.

Well, marrying a "von" doesn't mean that the marriage is equal - there are lots of examples of unequal marriages of German noblemen to women whose surname was von Something.
Btw, I don't think that the renounciations have to do with marriages; her eldest son Hans Heinrich married his second and current wife in 1982 and their son is unmarried, but they both renounced to their succession rights in 2003.
