I think Carl Gustaf looks really good in these vacation pictures - very relaxed, happy, and seems to enjoy himself, and I like what he's wearing. He's on vacation afterall, so he can hardly be expected to wear a suit and a tie. Silvia is just beautiful no matter what, and the cap suits her - very sporty.

Thanks for these wonderful vacation pictures. :)

Hallo Larzen,
many thanks for the nice holiday pictures from St.Maxime. Who is Mr. and Mrs. Medel Svensson? Are there friends of the king and queen from Sweden?

In Sweden we use the name "medelSvensson" when we talk about very avarege, normal people doing normal things that everyone does.
Perhaps it could be translated as "Mr Nelson" or "Mr Smith" or something like that in english. Svensson is a very common name in Sweden so thats the reason why its called "medel (=avarage")Svensson

Gunilla Von Bismark invites to her house the Kings of Sweden.
It's been sometime that Gunilla did not celebrate any party. But after this one it's sure that Gunilla will repeat. The German invited all her friends, among them the Kings of Sweden, to the inauguration of her new house in Marbella. There they must had a good time, because some of them were disguised.

Oh my god, how can the Queen wear that costume in this weather!? Sweden is experiencing one of the warmest summers in a long time, it's like Mediterranean weather here - and I would think no one could even imagine putting on such a costume at this time...

This year was the 26th year that the prize "Öland inhabitant of the Year" was awarded. The prize was a glass bowl designed by Professor Erika Lagerbielke for Orrefors. Popular artist Lill Lindfors sang during the ceremony.

And I just have to quite was this one guy said the newspaper Barometern:
- It's a mere accident that we're here. We didn't even know the King would be here when we came to Solliden. When we saw it, I thought we had to see this. I have always dreamt about seeing the King, says Glenn Larsson from Bjärnum. :D

Ölandsbladet:

Barometern:

This coming Sunday, 17 July, King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia will be guests at the 60th birthday banquet of HRH Crown Prince Alexander of Yugoslavia in the capital city Belgrade.

PS. Mixer, this is a really interesting matter! Maybe I should ask the protocol department at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs to clear up what the official protocol really says...

Well maybe the speaker of the parliament could turn back the crown in the name of the king ;)

Is it just me...or does it say Carl Gustaf and Silvia on that cap that the king is wearing n the boat...the ones where he is also wearing a shirt with stripes on it??!:)

Photos from St Tropez, taken in October 2004 when the King went sailing.
And in the evening the royal couple went to dinner with King Constantine and Queen Anne-Mari

Summary of an Aftonbladet article:

http://www.aftonbladet.se/vss/nyheter/story/0,2789,675469,00.html

Today Aftonbladet reports that the King has added another car to his stable of cars. It is a BMW M3 CSL, a model only made in 1 500 copies. The silver grey coupé is a two-dor and has a six cylinder motor. It has a collector's value, so the price remains high, about $100 000. Apparently the King likes to drive (fast) around on the Solliden estate ("He has been driving like mad at the Palace", as an "eyewitness" said to Aftonbladet).

Last year the King was close to buying the world's fastest sports car, the Swedish made Koenigsegg (too bad he didn't, that would've been a sight!), apparently he will settle for his new BMW for now.

probably sometime in mid-august.
The University doesn´t open until the beginning of September so Madeleine has a little longer holiday than the rest of them :)

The King and Queen will pause their summer holiday (at least I think it's a pause, since they normally holiday until sometimes next month) this coming week to perform some official duties in Dalarna and Skåne Counties. You can see the official engagements listed in the thread for them, go here.

Today over 400 people from all over the word, among them high politicians, royals, diplomats and celebrities, gathers in Sweden to celebrate the memory of Dag Hammaskjöld, the late Secretary General of the United Nations, who was born 100 years ago today.

The day started with a luncheon at Bergsjöholms Castle outside Ystad in Skåne County, after which the guests continued on to the late diplomat’s own summer home Backåkra, a big farm estate situated in beautiful surroundings on the countryside. There the festivities continued in different form, and a bust of the late Secretary General was inaugurated.

Great photos. Good job finding them. Nice to see all of the diplomats there. A very convivial atmosphere it looks like.

Backåkra is a wonderful place to visit next time you are i Skåne.
