I have read it, nothing is official.

The GRF don't probably live there out of choice, who says Constantine is her favourite? Favourite what monarch?
Bonds of friendship I presume you mean, and I didn't know they were that close just because she's attended the parties they've had in London.

I have always said why she won't attend the wedding in Greece, because she hasn't attended any other royal wedding abroad. Why would she travel for this wedding, because she is supposedly closer to this royal family than any other?
If she does then IMO she will have done the completely wrong thing and not acted how a Queen should.
She has refused to attend every other wedding of a royal heir or any other royal person except Pavlos and Alexia because they were in the UK, to attend this would look incredible bad.

Oh, come on...give me a break!! How does "to attend this would look incredible bad" come from? Not having attended any other royal wedding abroad doesn't make a rule, now, at the ending of her Reign. You ask "why" to attend, and i say, "Why not?"
I'm sorry to tell but you seem complitely irrelevant with the GRF. You don't even know that "Pavlos" is the Greek name for "Paul", so i'm not surprised you don't know the bonds of friendship between the Queen and the GRF...!

She is the Queen of the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland, she has been invited to ever Royal wedding since probably her own and in the past 10 or so years hasn't bother to attend any except Alexia's and Pavlos'.

So IMO which I have been saying to attend the wedding of a non-reigning royal and to have snubbed the other ones and not bothered to give a reason is horrible.

Again who are you to say this is the ending of her reign? If this is the "ending of her reign" why didn't she accept the invite to Princess Victoria's like all the other royal monarchs did.

How am I supposed to know the bonds of friendship between two members of a royal household when I have no friendship to either one of them, I don't know who Her Majesty is friends with, which is the only way I would know how she feels towards King Constantine and his family.

As for the name, I have never lived in Greece, no nothing about the language or the names, so what has that got to do with anything?

Ok, you're saying "She is the Queen of the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland", like she is the Queen of the Universe!
You don't know if she was invited to the Swedish wedding! And as for if it is at the end of her Reign, i didn't say in in a bad way, but just facing the reality of her age! Are you telling me that she is going to Reign eternally???
I have to go to bed now, cause tomorrow morning i'm travelling to Spetses...i'll keep you posted;-)

Prince Philip is very close

King George of the Hellenes - Prince Andreas - Prince Philip
King George of the Hellenes - King Konstantin I - King Pavlos - King Kostantin II - Prince Nikolaos

Actually this makes Philip a cousin not an uncle. :flowers: Philip and Pavlos's fathers were brothers, so Philip and Pavlos themselves are cousins. This makes Philip a first cousin once removed to Pavlos's children (in this case, Constantine) and a first cousin twice removed to Pavlos's grandchildren (Nikalaos.)

I don't think we can say that QE 'snubbed' other weddings, etc. I am sure she will have been in private communication with members of other Royal families - most of whom are related to her in some way or another. I would also think it was well known that she doesn't go overseas to family events, so her non-attendance would not be taken personally. I believe this started right at the start of her reign, which was just after the War. The British were a bit sensitive about Prince Philip's sisters all being married to German Princes, and it was not thought a good idea for HM to be seen being friendly (and related!!) to foreign royalty. She herself has invited most of the main RFs to weddings, anniversaries, etc., in the UK, and it would appear that many attend. It is also known that members of other RFs are often guests at Balmoral Castle in the summer. (This is a private family house in the north of Scotland - acquired by Queen Victoria about 150 years ago - where the Queen spends several weeks on holiday every summer.) So I think there is a lot more contact than we know, because it is hidden from the media.

The Kinship is cousin of King Pavlo and second cousin of King Constantine.

Actually, Philip is a first cousin once removed of Constantine, not a second cousin. The children of one's first cousin are one's first cousins once removed, the grandchildren are first cousins twice removed, and so on. The children of two first cousins (for example, Prince Charles and Nikolaos) are second cousins.

Cousins share grandparents, second cousins share great-grandparents, and third cousins share great-great-grandparents. "Once removed" or "twice removed" is used to indicate that the cousins are from a different generation on the family tree.

cousins

Prince Philip's father Prince Andew or Andreas of Greece
was an uncle to King Paul/Pavlos of Greece.
King Paul is father of Constantine II.
Lets go back a few generations.
King Pauls father King Constantine I and Andrew were brothers and both are therefore sons of King George I Greece.
King George I was a Danish born Prince [was offered the Greek throne in 1863] & he is a brother to Alexandra, Queen of England and brother to Dagmar the Empress Maria Feodorovna of Russia and King Frederik VIII of Denmark.
Confused yet. Well then Paul married Frederica a daughter of Cumberland/ Brunsewick/ Hanover de jure. She is a granddaughter of Kaiser Wilhelm II Kaiser Wilhelm II is a grandson of Qu Victoria.
Also Queen Sofia of Spain is a sister of King Constantine II of Greece.
Hope this helps cheers;)

I think the Queen and Prince Philip are sort of parent figures to the Greek royals, being that they were quite young when they were deposed and went into exile in England.

I do know she was invited to the royal wedding because she was on the published invitation list, as was Prince Charles, Camilla, William and Harry.

No i'm saying it like I'd say Margrethe is Queen of Denmark, Beatrix is Queen of the Netherlands. If they can attend the weddings why can't Elizabeth, if it's age, she can manage to travel to Canada on a state tour, why can't she travel to Sweden for a royal wedding?

She's not going to reign eternally, but I don't think she is going to abdicate or pass away any time soon. She has better health than most royal monarchs.

For the wedding?
Nope but we can know that HM Margrethe, CP Mary, Joachim and Marie are coming from Denmark.
CP Victoria, Prince Daniel, Princess Madeleine and Prince Carl-Philip are coming from Sweden.
Spain is everyone but the King I believe.

It is said that it will start at 19.30h but in which timezone? Greek?

Yes I have read it.
the timezone is of Greece. 19:00 greek timezone

The wedding will be to the 19:30, the guests will began to arrive at 19:00 at the Monastery. The monastery accommodates only 80 people, so in their yards have been enabled television cameras for the rest of the wedding guests can follow the ceremony.

Two pages on Queen Elizabeth's non-attendance at Prince Nikolaos' wedding is more than enough without introducing a diversion into the Swedish wedding.
Members who wish to discuss the issue further can do so in the Windsors and Europe thread in the British Forum.

thanks.

The island of Spetses and the surrounding areas are buzzing with activity and there is a lot of excitement about the wedding. Greek TV gives information but I wonder if they transmit the wedding live. Best wishes to the lovely couple and their families.

According to this article, king Juan Carlos won´t come to the wedding. Queen Sofia and her sister Princess Irene with Prince and Princess of Asturias and the Infantas Elena and Cristina will arrive in a private flight.
Monarquía Confidencial - Don Juan Carlos no asistirá a la boda de Nicolás de Grecia: doña Sofía viajará con los Príncipes de Asturias y las Infantas Elena y Cristina en un vuelo privado

King Juan Carlos attend the weddings of Pavlos and Alexia. So if his health is good enough... maybe there will be a suprise;).

I would like the Greek television will speak about it, but I have seen the programming and not think they will broadcast it.
The BBC and CNN are present, I have seen their journalists and vehicles

The presence of King Juan Carlos would be a real surprise, but his health is obviously not travel. He is very weak yet, this year has not participated in regattas in Mallorca. Princes Felipe and Letizia will arrive to Athens this afternoon with Queen Sofia, tomorrow will arrive the Infantas elena and Cristina, epa - european pressphoto agency: La Reina y los Prncipes viajan a Atenas para asistir a la boda de Nicols de Grecia

NO, Prince Philip and King Pavlos were firsts cousins, because their fathers were brothers.
Prince Philip is uncle for King Kostantin and Charles etc are second cousins with King Kostantin etc
Consequently King Kostantin's children are second nefews of Prince Philip.
William and Pavlos, Nikolaos& Co are third cousins.

Philip is neither Constantine's second cousin or his uncle.

You are someone's aunt/uncle is you are his father/mother's sibling, not his parent's cousin. For instance, Charles and Anne are siblings; therefore Anne is William's aunt and Charles is Zara's uncle. William and Zara are each other's (first) cousin. This will not make William an uncle to Zara's children - he will continue to be a cousin, just more distantly. He will be a first cousin, once removed, to Zara Junior. (Charles, however, will be Zara Junior's great-uncle.)

In order to be a second cousin, your parents have to be first cousins. Zara Junior and William Junior will be second cousins. Constantine and Charles are second cousins because their fathers were first cousins. But Philip and Constantine are not second cousins - second cousins, first cousins, third cousins, and so on require you to be on the same line on the family tree. Philip and Constantine are first cousins, once removed - like William and Zara's children will be.

:previous: Oh Maura...this is easier to trace and you are so correct..
Can you imagine how they were figuring out the degrees of family ties between different royals when the bride and groom were also first cousins? :flowers:

Are you in Spetses? I checked with both BBC & CNN and neither has any plans to transmit it. Perhaps a clip here and there...Pehaps we will have to wait for You Tube to come through for us.

I have been in Porto Heli, I wanted see to the Kings of Greece in boat, I have seen vehicles with this advertising.

I see that the spanish journalist is in Porto Heli and danish.

I take it there will be a pre-wedding gala event? When does it take place and what sort of event will it be, a concert or just a dinner?
