Dutch State Visit to the Slovak Republic: March 7-9, 2023

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
When President Ivan Gašparovič of Slovakia made a State Visit to the Netherlands, there was a guard of honour in uniforms of the KNIL, the (colonial) Royal Netherlands East-Indian Army, recognizeable by the orange galons on the uniform and the use of klewangs (bladed weapon between sword and machete): picture.

It is seldom that these KNIL tenues are used: picture.

Beautifull!!Glorious days!

The couple will meet somebody that they are very familiar with. The present Dutch ambassador in Bratislava, Gabriella Sancisi, used to be the Queen's private secretary from 2014 to 2021.

It is interesting that folks close to the King always end high up on prestigious diplomatic posts.

For an example Ed Kroonenburg, formerly Grandmaster of the House of Her Majesty The Queen: after this position he became the Ambassadeur du Royaume des Pays-Bas in Paris, France (which comes with a fa-bu-lous mansion to live in, made famous in the movie Intouchables).

His successor as Grandmaster of the House of His Majesty The King, Marco Hennis, became the Botschafter des konigreichs der Niederlande in Vienna, Austria.

His successor as Grandmaster of the House of His Majesty The King, Jan Versteeg, became the Embajador del Reino de los Países-Bajos in Madrid, Spain.

That will make it an even friendlier State Visit given the Ambassadors previous royal role.

All those mentioned by you do originate from the diplomatic service,so,so no surprises seeing them move on in their careers within their fields

That was indeed a wonderful surprise :previous:

Did Juan move from Austria to Slovakia? I thought he was living in Vienna (at least that's where he got married).

The drive from Vienna to Bratislava only takes one hour, so he may still be in Vienna.
