British Royal Family Engagements 2018

Weekly Update to 25th October, 2018

Harry and Meghan finished their tour this week. Harry did 62 engagements over the 16 days and Meghan did 56. These figures are based on the CC and not on any pre-tour list of planned engagements which included things like ‘tram-ride in Melbourne’. Yes they did a tram-ride but it wasn’t an official engagement. I do not count ‘left xxxx country’ or ‘arrived in yyyyy country’ unless there is ‘arrived in zzzzz country and were welcomed by …..’ If I counted the others then many, if not all, of the working royals would add quite a few more to their yearly tally. That means that the arrivals in all countries, other than Australia, were official engagements as there was also a formal welcome on the tarmac while the departures were just listed as ‘left the country’. I do this for all members of the family.

Charles and Camilla have started their tour and after two days Charles has done 9 engagements while Camilla has done 8. Edward is also in Africa while Andrew is travelling around Asia and ended the week in China, which is his second visit there this year. Andrew has overseas tours where he does engagements for two or three days, then has two or three days off and then more engagements. He may even return to the UK in between but that is never made clear. A note about the visits to Ghana – Edward has been there for two days 31st October and 1st November while Charles and Camilla didn’t get there until the 2nd November. That is why they aren’t listed as visiting Ghana this week – even though the reports of that visit are out I do my updates from Friday to Thursday so on a Saturday here in Australia we do know what happened on the Friday but the CC may not go up until next Monday, Tuesday or even Wednesday for me.

Milestones this week include William reaching his double century (and he did it by attending a Duchy of Cornwall meeting without his father as Charles was overseas on the day of the meeting). The Duke of Gloucester also brought up his double ton for the year going quietly about his role as a supporter to his cousin as he has done for the past 46 years since he had to give up his dream of being an architect on the deaths of his older brother and then his father. Edward is on the verge of being the third member of the BRF to bring up his 400 for the year not far behind both Charles and Anne. The Duke of Kent does the same thing – even in his early 80s. The Queen of course keeps on keeping on now that she is back in London.

Weekly Update to 8th November, 2018

This was quite a busy week with most royals undertaking at least one engagement. Only Meghan and Alexandra didn’t do anything. Alexandra has cancelled her engagements for most of the rest of the year – probably due to the broken arm the kept her away from Eugenie’s wedding. In older people these can take a lot longer to heal than in younger ones so what may take six weeks for a person in their 20s can take 10 – 12 weeks for someone in their 80s, such as Alexandra. There were 152 engagements for the week in total.

Milestones this week include Camilla reaching her double century. Edward bring up his 400 for the year while Charles brought up his 450.

Philip did another engagement for the year – his 8th by my calculations.

The interesting day for me is the 3rd November. Camilla was with Charles. There are pictures of her doing engagements on that day and she did them on the 2nd and 4th but for some reason the CC has Camilla doing nothing on the 3rd November, which I do find strange but HM has her reasons no doubt.

Sorry folks but there will be a delay with the update this week ...

although I have my computer I don't have my disk.

When I first was diagnosed with the stress fracture in the knee - way back in early June - my computer crashed at the same time and my place of work kindly allowed me to borrow one of theirs (actually my own 'work' computer so I could keep in touch with my final year students). On Thursday the IT guy from work collected my school computer and fixed my home computer - great but ... I had my USB in the school computer case. It had all my day to day collation on it and I hadn't had the time to upload it all to the fixed computer.

I will be going to school on Tuesday to discuss my 'back-to-work' needs so will get the disk then and do the update on Wednesday. I have my last session at the rehab centre on Monday so will be returning to work on Monday week - for the final two weeks of the school year for my school.

Thanks for all of you have PM'd you good wishes to me. It is much appreciated. :flowers::flowers::flowers:

The specialist is happy with my progress after seven weeks but is already talking about when we do the left ...:eek:

Weekly Update to 15th November, 2018

Another busy week with most of the royals out and about for Remembrance Sunday. Princess Alexandra appears to still be on the sick list as I can think of no other reason for her to miss these events. Princess Michael was also absent so again I am asking the question – is she all right or on the sick list?

Charles, of course celebrated his 70th birthday at a very private dinner. That has meant that I have had to recalculate the percentages for those in their 60s and 70s which has been done so that the 60s percentages includes Charles up to the 13th November while everything from the 14th onwards will now be calculated in the 70s age bracket – the advantage of Excel means it was a two minute exercise to make this change.

Milestones achieved this week: Charles turned 70 with both his parents still alive. Meghan has brought up her century of engagements for the year as well.

The League Table

The colour coding indicates where a royal has either moved up or down in the table thus changing their position. Of course those that undertook an engagement moved 'up' in terms of numbers but not in their 'rank'. Prince Michael jumped ahead of a number of people this week which is why they are all in colour.

Weekly Update to 22nd November, 2018

Not quite such a busy week although most of the royals were out and about. Andrew is in Australia, although from the coverage down here you would never know it. He is getting even less coverage than Edward got back in April when he was here for a couple of weeks – but at the same time almost as Charles and while the Commonwealth Games were on. Andrew simply doesn’t rate in terms of the media coverage of his work. He is only worth a story when there is a scandal attached. Edward usually only gets coverage when Sophie is with him so the media can discuss what she is wearing – and that sadly is now all the media seem to care about – not the causes but the clothes so no matter how important or good a cause might be the royal needs a wardrobe to push to get attention.

Weekly Update to 29th November, 2018

A fairly standard week with most of the family undertaking some engagements. From the media’s coverage most people would think that Harry was the busiest person closely followed by William and Kate but they weren’t. The Queen had a number of engagements for instance.

I hope all the Australians on board realise that Andrew has been down here for the past week but based on the media coverage no one would know but he has been busy traversing the country for Pitch @ Palace events along with many other things, including a visit to the Queensland Ballet. Most people would find it strange that Andrew actually goes to the ballet – both in the UK and often when overseas. I have read reports where he will visit the ballet in the UK while they are rehearsing, unannounced in the CC, just to encourage and to find out how things are going. This is the ‘work’ that the BRF do that isn’t always made known but still happens.

Anne and Tim are currently in Chile. I found it interesting that on their first day the CC said ‘Her Royal Highness, accompanied by Vice Admiral Laurence, carried out the following engagements in Santiago’ but on the 29th it had Tim presumably sitting around twiddling his thumbs all day until the final engagement. I am sure he was doing something but not with Anne. Why I found that particularly odd was that Tim wasn’t recorded as being with Anne when she unveiled the statue of Admiral Lord Cochrane given Tim’s own rank in the navy and his naval service.

I must also again note that without a second source for the CC I would not have been able to do this update. The online CC hasn’t been updated since the 19th November so nearly two weeks since its last update or 210 engagements are missing from that site by my count. The BRF really does need to get itself together as that is appalling – a day or two maybe at very busy times but TWO WEEKS BEHIND would see staff being sacked in most organisations but not in the BRF. They are happy to put up with incompetent or lazy staff in their PR department.

No one reached a ‘milestone’ this week but those who are close are: Charles approaching 500, Harry approaching 200 and Birgitte approaching 100 (approaching for me means they are within 10 – or in the ‘90s’ leading to that milestone).

Unofficial Engagements for Beatrice and Eugenie to 29th November, 2018

Note about these engagements. Some people have let me know of events that took place earlier in November that I hadn’t included and so they are now included this week.

I don’t go looking – although often I find them anyway as people post links in the relevant princesses’ pages here but I also rely on other people letting me know and I do appreciate that help.

HRH Princess Beatrice of York – 28
HRH Princess Eugenie of York – 21

The online CC is catching up. Last Saturday, when I did my update they had up to the 19th November. Overnight, Australian time, they updated to the 21st November so now they are still TWO WEEKS behind.

Fortunately I have another source that is up to the 3rd December. As events on the 4th December haven't yet been completed it isn't surprising they aren't up yet.

The BRF have a PR problem at the moment and they don't help themselves.

If you need any dates Iluvbertie, just shoot me a personal message.

I have all the dates from my other source ... which either you or Princess Larissa gave me earlier this year.

This isn't something new by the way.

I am doing a detailed analysis from 1997 and there are some interesting things missing over the years from the online CC - such as Trooping in 2017.

Wonders will never cease - the online CC is UP TO DATE - to 4th December. Amazing.

Weekly Update to 6th December, 2018

Once again pretty well all of the family undertook at least one engagement … including Princess Alexandra who has been off ‘work’ since she broke her arm around the time of Eugenie’s wedding.

The media has been more interested in the ‘rift’ between the Cambridges and Sussexes to cover the work being done by the rest of the family of course … even Beatrice has had very little coverage with the controversy about her relationship.

Andrew left Australia and went to Vietnam where he undertook a number of engagements. He really is trying to encourage innovation amongst young people but he doesn’t get any coverage – he needs a good looking wife at his side so the media can write reams about her clothes and so then he might get some coverage. Interestingly on the day Andrew returned to the UK he then carried out an engagement in the UK on the same day but we are often told that they are so tired after such a flight that they have to have a day or so off to recover … not Andrew (nor Anne in many cases).

Anne and Tim finished their visit to Chile and returned to the UK where Anne continued her steady 3 – 4 engagements a day routine.

Milestones reached this week: Charles reached 500

The following, who were close to a milestone last week are still within 10 of that milestone: Harry approaching 200 and Birgitte approaching 100 (approaching for me means they are within 10 – or in the ‘90s’ leading to that milestone).

Andrew and Anne can be added to the list of those approaching a milestone as they are approaching 400 and 500 respectively.

Unofficial Engagements for Beatrice and Eugenie to 6th December, 2018

Note about these engagements. Some people have let me know of events that took place earlier in November that I hadn’t included and so they are now included this week.

I don’t go looking – although often I find them anyway as people post links in the relevant princesses’ pages here but I also rely on other people letting me know and I do appreciate that help.

HRH Princess Beatrice of York – 28
HRH Princess Eugenie of York – 21

Can anyone who has access to the CC via the print media or some other source let me know if there have been any official engagements since the 7th December.

The online British monarchy CC has updated to the 4th December while my other source has is only up to the 7th. It usually updates within 24 hours e.g. if an event occurred in the UK on the 11th December I normally find that I can access it before retiring Down Under on the 12th. The 7th December was up on the 8th for me but since then nothing.

Weekly Update to 13th December, 2018

As the year is nearing its end it was great to see that the family were still undertaking official engagements. For some family members attending Christmas Carol Services. Concerts or other celebrations with their charities is a feature of this time of the year.

Milestones reached this week: Harry reached 200, Andrew reached 400 and Anne reached 500

Birgitte is approaching a milestone as she has only one more for her century.

I am not sure that anyone else will top a ‘00’ mark this year although there are a couple in the ‘80s’ in their centuries e.g. Her Majesty is at 287 but I am not sure she will get another 13 (had Mrs May lost the vote the other day … or if there is a ‘no confidence’ vote on the floor of the house and she is replaced as a result then HM will top the 300 due to all the changes that will follow but otherwise I don’t see it personally, especially as the event overnight was supposedly her last public appearance for the year (although we will see her at church at Sandringham but that isn’t an official event). Kate is on 81 and again I am not seeing her doing 19 in the next two weeks. The Duke of Kent is also in the 80s – at 188 but I don’t think he will do another 12 but as he usually does 3 – 4 every time he goes out he may surprise at that.

The annual total, by my count, is over 4000 but remember I count the York princesses, Tim, and the Michael’s of Kent while Mr O’Donovan doesn’t so I expect his final total to be lower than mine when the time comes.

Countries Where Royals Have Undertaken Engagements to 13th December, 2018

As there was no change from this extensive list over the past week I decided not to put up that list again. If there is another overseas engagement before the end of the year the list will appear again. Next year only countries in which an engagement took place during the week will appear rather than the full list all the time.

Fantastic work! You deserve a medal for the work you do!

Thank you very much! You are greatly appreciated!

Weekly Update to 20th December, 2018

We are definitely into holiday mode this this week with only 2 – 4 engagements per royal rather than 2 – 4 on 3 – 4 days during the week and many of those that did happen were Christmas related. It is always holiday time when Anne goes a week without an engagement and she didn’t do one this week and has none scheduled before the 3rd January – and then she has a busy January planned according to the Future Engagements. An interesting new ‘type of engagement’ is a Tea Dance which Charles attended at Dumfries House on the 20th. I haven’t come across that one before from memory.

Milestones reached this week: The Duchess of Gloucester reached 100 during this past week meaning only Catherine and Alexandra didn’t reach that mark in 2018. Catherine spent a large part of the year on maternity leave of course and Alexandra was injured for over two months.

Unofficial Engagements for Beatrice and Eugenie to 20th December, 2018

Note about these engagements. Some people have let me know of events that took place earlier in November that I hadn’t included and so they are now included this week.

I don’t go looking – although often I find them anyway as people post links in the relevant princesses’ pages here but I also rely on other people letting me know and I do appreciate that help.

HRH Princess Eugenie of York – 24

Final Analysis for 2018

As there has been no engagements since the last update - 20th December I am doing my end of year posts today. Of course, if something should happen I will adjust that individual royals details only.

This analysis is the complete analysis for the year by individual royal. As a result, you should be able to see how many of each type of engagement each royal did for instance.

Each analysis will have the following format: Total for the Year, Comparison to MY Figures for Last Year, Percentage of the Total Figures for this Year, Comparison Percentage to Last Year, Place on the League Table 2018, Place on the League Table 2017, Number of Days on which the royal undertook Official Engagements in 2018 and 2017 for comparison, Types of Engagements with Totals for 2018, Patronages Supported 2018 with Totals, Non-Patronage or Organisation Supported in 2018 with Totals, Number of Overseas Engagements in Total and by Country for Each Royal, Total Number of Politicians a Royal Met.

I do hope that people enjoy this analysis as it is fun doing it. I do believe that it shows that there is a lot of work being done supporting many charities and organisations by in the UK and elsewhere in the world.

A note about the weddings attended: You may notice that a lot of the royals are listed as attending one wedding e.g. Kate while others are listed as attending two. The CC only recorded the Queen, Philip, Charles, Camilla, William and Harry as attending Harry’s wedding (and Meghan of course). However, they were all listed as attending Eugenie’s.

I would like to note that this is my hobby and nothing official. No doubt others would do things differently and end up with different figures. I have seen a count, elsewhere for instance, that has Philip at 5 for the year while I have him on 8. That person clearly didn't count the weddings as that would account for the other three - wedding and reception for Harry and wedding for Eugenie.

I have done an analysis for each royal and will upload them over the next half hour or so. May I ask that people, who may wish to comment, wait until Alexandra goes up so that they all follow and the thread doesn’t get too mixed up with a conversation about something in a post while I am still posting. Most royals will get one entry although the smaller ones – like the Yorks will be with Andrew – if they fit into the 10,000 character limit.
