Over the last few weeks/months, we've seen very different approaches by the two courts in regards to dealing with the media. More in general, it seems the British court - unlike for example the Scandinavian courts - prefer to provide information 'off the record' (called 'briefings') which makes it harder to know whether news is truly coming from the palace or that it was loosely interpreted by the outlet or entirely made up. Apparently, some phrases (for example 'this reporter understands' and 'this news outlet can confirm') can be used as cues that information is directly coming from the palace, as well as the same news being reported by several outlets around the same time. Nonetheless, I wonder why they refuse to be more straight-forward. I fully understand they don't want to respond to every rumor but if they brief the media, why can't they take responsibility for it?
