Summary of a DN article , and some small things from a Svenska Dagbladet article:

Just before two in the afternoon today, a royal 21 shot salute was fired in order to welcome the East Indiaman ship “Götheborg” to Stockholm on its maiden voyage. Thousands of people followed the ship as it entered Stockholm from different positions around the water, and hundreds of private boats where out on the water to see the arrival close by.

On board were King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia, together with a host of VIP guests – among them the Ambassador of China to Sweden, and the Ambassador to China of Sweden.

- This is an important milestone for Swedish shipping and Swedish handicraft art, said the King and applauded the craftsmen who have worked on re-creating this boat since 1995.

On the question whether he prefers sailing boats or motorboats, the King replied:
- Both of them have their charm. It’s hard to put them up against each other. But I’m deeply impressed in the way this ship has come into existence.

What does the East Indiaman mean for Sweden in the world?
- It has a great significance with the trip to China. It’s good to develop trade and friendship, and to extend the knowledge about Sweden. I’m sure that the interest in Sweden will increase in the harbours where Götheborg will dock in China.

The original “Götheborg” went down on 12 September 1745 in Gothenburg, and was originally build in the Terra Nova shipyard in Stockholm. In 1995, The Marine Archaeological Society started to work on a project aiming at re-creating the ship. And now it lies there in central Stockholm for a short visit - 40 meters long, 11 meters broad, 400 tons heavy, and with a crew of 80.

On the second of October, “Götheborg” will begin its voyage to China, taking the same route as the original 1700 ship did. It will be off sailing for two years.

The King is the ship’s highest protector; the Queen is its godmother.

I was there at the arrival today, it was a wonderful experience, shared with so many people who stood around the waters. It was very impressive to see "Götheborg" enter our sights as it entered city waters. The salute was the closest I've ever been to one, it was so loud I had to hold my hands over my ears.

Picture 1-2 if from Dagens Nyheter, pictures 3-9 are from Svenska Dagladet.

Yes, ain't it fab! :D The professional showing off their skills when they get their moment... If there would be a "The Most Stupid Questions of Our Time" in the press core, then this question would surely land somewhere in the very beginning of that list.

A whole braincell? Hm... I sincerely doubt it. Maybe like 1/10 of a braincell, shared among the whole Swedish press core... :)

Ouch but right on target. :D

Thank you for the translations, GrandDuchess and all of the photos these last couple of days. That is some ship. I like this photo. It really shows how big that boat is:

The King and Queen looked like they had a good time.

Thank you, FanLetizia for your photos.

This little girl is adorable. I assume that´s her in the other photo as well.

I love photos like these. It captures more closely the couple. Sometimes it´s great to see photos of people at events where there are a lot of people but you can only see 2 or 3 people. It´s really neat:

I hope they didn´t take that wood from virgin forests and that they replanted as many trees as they cut down to make the replica.

Swedish royals call in the lawyers over preacher

The Swedish royal family has brought in the lawyers against a fundamentalist preacher in Kansas who said that the royal children look “slutty and gay”...

Yes, this guy is a sad sack. Sometimes it´s best to ignore people like him. But he shouldn´t be surprised that he is getting sued. I just hope he doesn´t say anymore to insult the Bernadottes.

That man has come to my town several times, once to protest the awarding of a scholarship to a gay high school student going to college. (The kid's going to college -- he deserves praise!)

I wonder what's the man got against the Swedish Royal Family and why would he have that impression of the King and his children. You'd think a preacher would have more significant things going on in his own community to worry about.

I was also in Stockholm as the ship "gothenburg" came in to the harbour and ran down to see it. And to my surprise the king & queen was on the ship. This was the first time that i have ever seen anyone of the royal family in real life, quite fun to see people that you follow like this in real life.:)

More pics of the new Swedish replica of an East-India Sailing ship from the 1740:s "Gotheborg" arrived to the Stockholm Harbour today. The original ship was sailing between Gothenburg and China with goods and went down in a storm outside Gothenburg September 12th 1745. King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia greeted the ship as it arrived to Stockholm, 17th August:
They are from Uppa UK:

Thanks god, the king and the other involved persons are ok. That´s most important.
But...some security (driving) training for the whole family wouldn´t be bad. They drive like wild sows!
Or what about yearly tickets for the tunnelbana (?)

haha yes perhaps we should demand that the whole royal family buys tickets for tunnelbanan instead of driving :D

Yes, thankfully, everybody is okay. I haven't seen any wild sows drive in this part of the world lately but I see your point. Perhaps, they should make some public service commercials for the NTF. ;)

I search pictures from yesterday, 26th August, "the gamlas day" at Ekeby slottspark/Drottningholm. Meeting for celebration the Queen with old people.

Royal News Sweden's King crashes new BMW

August 26, 2005, 4:31:13
000000blank.jpg
Sweden's King Carl Gustaf crashed his new BMW yesterday (25.08.05).

The monarch - who is known for his love of fast cars - was driving to Stockholm when he crashed into the back of a car at a roundabout just north of Norrköping.

His spokeswoman, Ann-Christine Jernberg, said: "The driver in front apparently had to brake quickly for a cyclist and then the King's BMW hit the other car's back bumper." Both cars sustained damage but police say that neither driver was seriously injured.

Yennie, thanks for your information. But I have no found pictures by polfoto and fotomarktplatz:confused: . I hope, we will see pictures in the next few days. :)

I dont think this is a photo from this year, but here a photo of queen Silvia at "De gamlas dag" at Drottningholm

from www.ekero.se

Yennie, thanks for your help and the picture from "De gamlas dag". But I think too, that the pic is not from this year, perhaps from 1999.

At yesterday (6th September) the king and queen attendance at the awarding of The Gösta Winbergh Award, Ulriksdal Palace. Who has see pictures from this event?

Today, the king and queen visit Värmdö. I hope we will see nice pictures as soon!

Thanks lots for those pictures, GrandDuchess. The Queen looks really happy and enjoy, and all the outfits and dresses she worn recently were all really stylish and pretty.
