some of the other pictures are unflattering, tacky and creepy, are these done by Lagerfeld? how overhyped he is :whistling: unless he was told to pursue a certain image that I wouldnt want for myself or my country.

I cant help but these two dont come across as individuals in love who see eye to eye. its rather sugar daddy and young & willing trophy wife in designer clothes and I am not going down the looks route cause it will be deleted :whistling:

I dont find their type of PR helpful, not at all.
 
I think it's more of a poolrobe than a bathrobe. There are several pictures of PG with her swimsuit on. I thought the picture was tasteful and fine. They live in Monaco where everyone dresses more casually. This picture would look weird in London, but not on the French Riviera.

Pool robe or bathrobe - the Cour d'honneur is where the wedding ceremony is supposed to take place !!!
 
An interview of the two will be shown tomorrow on 50min Inside.
 
The photos didn't surprise or shock me at all - they are exactly what I expect from Monaco. Monaco is a unique place. It's famous simply for its casino, its glamorous location on the Côte d'Azur and its former movie star princess. I don't hold Prince Albert and Charlene to the same standards as the other royal houses. Hell would freeze over before you saw Letizia or Kate involved in this kind of shoot, but they are representing something completely different. I expect PA and Charlene to continue these types of shoots as they portray Monaco and the couple exactly how they wish to be portrayed. Monaco = old world glamour (= money).

Well, here you have it, still not speaking French, not a word after years living in a French speaking country, I lost count how long. This woman has no shame at all. This is embarassing and shameful. She doesn´t care at all what she represents, she just cares her expensive clothes. This is not what Monaco needs.


jdcharlie, I agree in part with your comments, but Caroline would never had made a fool of herself and everybody´s laughing stock with those ridicule poses. She´s also cultured and classy. I wish everybody would realise what Monaco is losing with this wedding.

Albert maybe could be helping her more in this regard. It must be very difficult I am 57 and even at school when I was 15 I just could not grasp the language and my French classes were not getting me anywhere. Maybe as I was in a class of 20 girls I just got left behind. The teacher just gave up.

I think Prince Albert should/could be helping her more unless he himself does not mind either way. English is fine for him. Who knows? Is it all Charlene's doing or is Albert not helping that much? Or maybe she has tried and cannot do it.

The Daily said Prince William speaks fluent French. I have yet to hear him speak any French at all?


I do feel sorry for Charlene. It must have been so easy for Caroline and Stephanie who were taught it by professionals from childhood.

But, by the looks of it, PA has consistently been more than reticent in helping his fiancée to master even a small amount of conversational French.

Once she has the ring on her finger, she will be even more disinclined to make an effort.

It could be that she has some kind of phobia about speaking languages. In my career I have encountered students with such a phobia, and this condition can be very hard to tackle...
 
In fact Prince William himself during a polo match a few years ago (maybe 6 or 7 years) confirmed to a journalist who knew he spoke french that it was true.

But he said there was no way he could be caught speaking in public because his accent was awfull.

So maybe it's true ...

JMO, but I believe the best way to learn is to speak the language all the time; don't worry about mistakes or an awful accent, but consistently use the language, even if you only know a few words at first.
The only way to gain fluency in any language is to live it: read, speak it every day, and improvement will be inevitable.

Agree 100%!!! How can it be, after all this time, that Charlene cannot do a simple interview in French. Whether she'd have an accent or not, who cares? Nobody is perfect. But its about the effort and willingness to speak the language of the country she will represent, paying respect to the people. It would have been better for Albert to invest in a private tutor rather than investing in clothes and doctors.
 
Somehow I cannot see Karl Lagerfeld doing a photo-shoot with Princess Caroline or Charlotte Casiraghi and asking either of them to wear a biker-midriff-exposing outfit. The tummy-exposed, black leather-zipper thing does nothing to enhance the image of a new Monaco on the eve of the long awaited nuptials. I do not understand why Charlene would ever consent to wearing this getup. Karl always tries to tell a story with his photo-shoots. What was Karl Lagerfeld trying to say?

THIS is so true!
She will never speak french, or we'll never hear her doing it. Once she got her ring, what has she been working for during 11 years, it's all done.

If we count from 2000, on and off, many encounters, 2001 again, she gave an interview to a SA paper, and then officialy began when Rainier died, the year later...but they know each other since 2000
 
I for one like the pictures very much - it´s Monaco, a glamorous place on French Riviera with the touch of Hollywood, not an honorable and dignified British monarchy. Even Monaco royals are quite specific, not royals in the true sense of the word, but something between royals and celebs, often scandalous and eccentric - but it belongs to Monaco, eccentric country itself.
To the pics - I like best No. 5 and 6 - very elegant, and pic No. 1 - quite tender and intimate without being vulgar.
The pic with Charlene in the evening dress coming out from the pool looks strange, but at the second sight, as somebody wrote in the discussion earlier, it is a representation of her metamorphosis from the swimmer to a Princess. Actually it is quite smart!:)
(Only the patterned dress isn´t my cup of tea.)

I think "obsession" is slightly over the top.

However, it's not really necessary for us to polarise our views to such an extent....

After all, it's a matter of personal taste ..... as the French (and the Monégasque) say: "Chacun à son gout !" To each his/her own....

Agreed, its just that some reactions to the pictures make it seem as if she had done a centrefold in Playboy, instead of a fashion photo shoot with her fiance the Sovereign Prince of Monaco.
One can only imagine the reaction were she ever to be photographed topless or nude while on a private vacation, like other members of her new family have been.

Charlene was quoted in this week's People magazine:

"And as for the French language, it's probably one of the most beautiful in the world. I speak a little bit and I can follow conversations, but I think it will take time to improve myself." (article)

As you probably know, it's easier to listen to a second language than it is to speak it. It does sound as though she's making progress.

Dislike of a photo-shoot (created and organized by Karl Lagerfeld) says nothing about hate about anyone. Such an odd fashion pictorial. Some pictures were ok, but the strangest ones were 1. The cover. 2) the bathrobe. Does anyone remember this photo? Trying to channel Grace is sad.

The first time they saw each other was in 2000. First spoke and date was 2001 next was New Years Eve party for 2006 in SA. That came from someone who knows them.

Edited to add: I don't think Charlene is trying to channel Grace as Agogo put it photographers decide on many poses and what to wear. Karl is a friend of Carolines.

They had the seats of the Salon des Glaces reupholstered. Before they where more yellow/golden if you look at all the official pictures taken there.
 
Mariage Princier:

Only 15 days before the deadline for the wedding present - the Monegasques have subscribed to a wedding gift.

When PA assumed power over Monaco in June 2005, they gave two paintings by Georges Braque.

This time, they are asking for donations towards a benevolent fund.

PS: Georges Braque is one of my favourite French artists. Many of his works tell about love and peace and solidarity.

Whenever I get the chance to cross the channel, I make a beeline for Dieppe. At Varengeville-sur-Mer, on a windy clifftop outside the town, there is the grave of Georges Braque. The stained glass windows are fabulous...

^Ok, so we can do that. I always try, believe it or not, to not criticize her, but i can't. I always find something.
But for example, in the GP, she looked quite nice. Dress was ok, hair too. But i can only say that, sorry.
Anyway, talking to you is easier than talking to hard core fans of hers.
 
Well, I can't stand that print thing she wore to the GP...the belt emphasizes her thick waistline and it looked even worse on TV!

The only outfit I liked was the deep gold gown for the gala.:whistling:
 
Funny .... I loved the "print thing" ..... but hated the deep gold gown ....
There's no accounting for taste, as they say.
