Princess Letizia's Eveningwear Part 2: July 2008 - February 2009

I acutally liked it but I have a soft spot for see-through sleeves. The dress is really pretty and I thought the combination with stockings and non-peeptoes was very appropriate for the occasion (no high profile royalty compared to other royalty but from a muslim country). Letizia has other black dresses that are really ugly, for example the one she wore at JC's 70th birthday:

I was disappointed with the Mexican visit, repeating all the old outfits. The would be an occasion to sparkle! The silver dress is nice but I find it far too girlish, makes her look as if she came straight out of a dollhouse.



I couldn't agree more. When it counts Letizia doesn't put much effort into her appearance and I am not sure whether it's only a question of money.

This black dress was from Caprile. The dress was well made technically, didn't have usual shoulder/sleeves problems seen in Varela's clothes. There are probably a few reasons Letizia didn't have new clothes in this Mexican trip, the new Mango skirt costs about 40 Euros. I notice Queen and Cristina haven't been seen with many new clothes either recently. However the main reason IMO was that Letizia wanted to remain discreet, on the background, have the press pay more attention to the events, for example, Felipe had about 9 speeches, all were well written and well delivered. It probably works better in the countires (ex. Poland) they are unknown, but in Mexico, the most headlines in the Spanish press were still 'Letizia in Mexico' .

Now that you mention it, I think Caprile has been disappointing for quite a while now. In the early years, some of the nicest pieces in Letizia's wardrobe came from Caprile (just to mention a few occasions were his designs were worn: danish wedding, engagement gala dinner, Gomez-Acebo / Laura Ponte wedding, Pascua Militar 2005). From then it went downhill - just thinking of all the ugly state dinner skirts and the matronly red outfit Letizia wore during the ambassador reception in 2008. Somehow he took the same turn like Varela - to the worse. Is that because they think they are "safe" now they have secured this ultimate customer and don't have to make any effort anymore? Please, there must be some fresh and upcoming designers in Spain who haven't plunged into couldn't-care-less-mood yet.

I believe you are right -- Letizia looks wonderful in white -- don't get me wrong, in other colors also -- but black doesn't photo well on anyone so I think she should stay away from it. Even pictures of blondes entirely in black do nothing for a photo [unless taken in studio with proper lighting placements]. I believe that should be taken into consideration when wearing black by anyone when they know they will be photographed.

Well, you may have a point, but all black certainly doesnt suit all blonds either! When my hair is blonde (in the summer) there is no way I would ever attempt all black, my skin is too fair... Just an example

This is the second time this month she has worn this silver dress (the last time was during an official visit to mexico) and the dress is repeated for the 4th time

I wish she had worn either something new or at lesat one that has not been worn as many times here are some of the dresses i would like her to reuse (maybe some might not have been right for this particular dinner)

I think this grey dress is about the most appropriate dress (out of all the dresses listed by PrincessOfEurope) for this dinner and it meshed very well with the dresses of other royal women, who all looked rather discreet, no one was wearing loud colors, Rania also wore her outfit a couple of times recently. She looked nice in this grey dress and I like her hair too.
On the other hand, I think Letizia should have bought herself a new cocktail dress. She is the crown princess, it seems she has less clothes budget than the Infantas .

I like this silver dress of Letizia's so don't really have a problem with the fact it was repeated. It looks nice and suited the tone of the event which was quite low-key, all of the women opted for fairly simple outfits.

I agree. As much as I love Letizia, she could have chosen another outfit. I'm sure she has lots of dresses to choose from although we don't see them much. The silver outfit is worn 2x this month.

the silver dress is repeated, but it's quite lovely. it's a good choice imo. although i agree that this blue dress would have been really nice. this one is also repeated but she always looked marvellous in it. as much as i love the orange dress (it's probably my favourite out of that list), i don't think it would have been a suitable evening dress.

You know what, for once I have to disagree with you.
I dont particularly like the silver dress. To me it is ok, but thats it.
She has plenty of others I like more: for example, the black dress from Mexico, the blue dress posted above... there are more but I dont have time to find links sorry.

I only really remember Letizia wearing one other orange outfit (a suit with a purple top & curly hair) but orange is a great colour for her - would love to see a little more of it.

well, I don't hope so.

I mean; I like the dress. It's pretty. She can recycle it in 2 or 3 months. But wearing the same dress 3 or 4 times a months .. that's definitely a little too often.. especially because she doesn't attend that many galaevents(more daytime events). And I am sure she has many more pretty dresses in her wardrobe she can recycle.

It looks like a dry clean only material to me. But you never know, some posters seem to think Letizia's clothes are so cheap. Maybe this dress is made of polyester and she just puts it in the washing machine and clothes dryer.

The pee-toe platform pump is in fashion right now, very hot at the Madrid fashion week. Plus it's a lot more comfortable. I think it's more painful to see Rania with her killer heels, and she had problems standing straight with her legs closed during the photo session (normally Rania had very good posture if not for those heels).

I like the wide-leg pants on Letizia, so much better than the skinny-leg. Both jacket and pants are recycled. I think the pants were from Adolfo Dominguez, first worn to an opera with the Queen and Felipe in 2003.
