Seeking attention or what here......this is just a horrible way to enter a country for a state visit.

Yes the necklace is ugly

This is an unofficial arrival. This is not some kind of event. Now if she is dressed like this when they have their official greeting, I'd be complaining.

Hiddeous necklace thing. Bug jewelry is hit or miss, huge beetles total miss.

Thank you Countessmeout, I worded that comment completely wrong and should know better. In growing up I have learned that at times people do things to get attention......I will admit that I have done that and there are times when her jewelry is so outlandish......this is a big one for the *Bug* is out right ugly and should be buried in the back yard. How could anyone wear it puzzles me beyond words....

What on earth is that? A bug on a sword, hanging at the middle of her body... where do you buy such a thing? Maybe a prop from the set of Indiana Jones?

Edit: according to modekoninginmaxima.nl the thing around her neck is from Jan Taminiau.

Good Lord that is hideous,I hope we never see that beetle piece ever again unless as a Hallowe'en decoration.

Calm down. IMO - a modern take on the venerable scarab, much loved in ancient Egypt (and likely elsewhere, but I am not an anthropologist/archaeologist/symbolist)

Still not beautiful - but very Max. I hope someday in some interview that someone asks her why the bugs and arachnids? This is not a flirtation - she is collecting them. Some days, I imagine the catalogues of Max's personal costume and semi-precious baubles once she is gone. It will be every bit as remarkable and more than the Duchess of Windsor's collection.

Did queen Maxima add the cross to the necklace or was it always there?

Stunning emeralds she looked so regal tonight.

Queen Juliana wore it in the same configuration as Maxima:

Dutch Visit to Portugal: State Banquet | The Court Jeweller

I don't think she's worn this tiara since 2014.

Yes. Its been worn by Princess Margriet a few times since though.

This seems the last outing, in 2016

This emerald necklace is one of my favourite pieces amongst all the royal jewels - I'm so glad Maxima wore it again!

Stunning emerald jewels but for me totally mismatched with the dress.

And only Max can go from a giant cockroach necklace to state jewels in the blink of an eye.
