Queen Fabiola was blessed with elegance and her jewels looked graceful on her,I really hope her important pieces went to a royal Foundation for use by the Queen and her daughters.

Here is the best photo I found of what I assume is her engagement ring. From what I can see, I do not like this ring. The emerald looks beautiful but the setting looks too much.

Those pearls of the late Queen Fabiola's are indeed very beautiful and elegant.
I am now cautiously optimistic that a significant amount of Fabiola's jewelry was left to remain in the Belgian RF and will be gradually showcased by her "daughter" Queen Mathilde over the years ,who will then eventually pass these lovely and historic pieces on the next queen of the Belgians, her daughter Elisabeth.

Queen Fabiola mixed Tunesian jewels with grand jewelry.
At Persepolis She wore to-gether her Wolfers tiara and the Tunesian earrings.
Queen Mathilde will never do that and wore in Poland the two Queen Fabiola's jewels but on different evenings.

One of my favourite Brooch. I have seen it wears the Mathilde many times in her hair as well.
I love it.

Are they emeralds in the Tunisian tiara or some other stone or agate? They're an odd green and everyone who has written about the parure has been very cautious. How did this parure come into the family, I wonder.

My gosh, Fabiola's jewel collection is like a peek into Ali Baba's cave of treasures! Those emeralds! That Waterfall brooch!
King Baudouin showered his beloved queen with many jewels during their life together, but I think the very elaborate pieces like that magnificent parure of emeralds came from Heads-of-State during overseas visits.
The Waterfall was a 55th birthday gift from Baudouin to Fabiola. I am so thrilled that it is now in Mathilde's collection.

An Ard Ri,
The picture you posted is Donna Fabiola engaged. This day she did her "Joyeuse Entrée " in Brussels. That was before the wedding.
As you know The King and the Queen had to come back earlier from their Honeymoon because of our political Situation.
Princess Lilian started her moving from Laeken to Argenteuil during this Period.
She did not have the time to finish replacing the empty Laeken Palace with other royal Furniture.
King Baudouin and Queen Fabiola found their Place empty...
Since then , 1960 , the Contact between Father and Son was over.
Queen Fabiola never wore this broch again and yes, it is still n the vaults.

Perhaps it was an engagement present?

An engagement present from the princesse de Rethy. In that case it indeed makes sense that Fabiola never wore it again, although it is a pity to see good diamonds going to waste.
Apparently the brooch was made by Schlumberger, who worked for Tiffany, so it is likely that Lilian was the first owner of the piece and it has little historical value. I doubt that Fabiola was close to Princess Esmeralda or Princess Alexandre but it would be nice if they have received the brooch at one point.

This is what I came across in my information gathering, but I can't recall now where.

Maybe .... but her hairstyle was the epitome of glamour at the time and almost every woman tried very hard to have such a style. Clearly, Fabiola had wonderful hair, even into old age it was still lovely.

Marengo is right Princess Lilian's gave her Brooch as engagement present to Donna Fabiola.
Princess Lilian gave the year before half moon with pearl earrings to Donna Paola as engagement present . She wore them her whole life!
