Visit of the President of Finland to Sweden: August 24, 2017

This year Finland celebrates 100 years as an independent nation. Because of this, the Royal couple and the Finnish presidential couple participate in several events in Stockholm on Thursday, August 24, which highlights the Finnish jubilee.

12:00: Lunch at the Royal Palace
The royal couple is giving lunch to the presidential couple. The Crown Princess Couple and Prince Carl Philip also attend.

14:00: Finnish party in Kungsträdgården
The royal couple and the presidential couple attend the opening ceremony of the Finnish party in Kungsträdgården.

14:55: Anniversary seminar at the Finnish Embassy
The king and the president attend the jubilee seminar "Finland and Sweden, together towards the future", Embassy of Finland, Gärdet.

15:00: Exhibition at the Army Museum
The queen and mrs Haukio visit Liljevalchs' jubilee exhibition "Focus Finland - 3 x Aho & Soldan" in the Army Museum's pavilion.

15:40: Exhibition at Kulturhuset
The queen and mrs Haukio visit Nationalmuseum’s exhibition "100 years of Finnish design - from Rafaela and Kaj Forsblom's collection" at Kulturhuset.

The royal family hosted a lunch for president Sauli Niinistö and mrs Jenni Haukio at the Royal Palace. President Niinistö celebrates today his 69th birthday.

The finnish press has widely noticed Victoria's tribute to Finland with her dress - Whooper Swan is Finland's National Bird. The swan at Victoria's dress isn't Whooper Swan, but a swan anyway.

The royal couple and the presidential couple arrived to STHLM/SUOMI festival. Over 10000 people had gathered to the event in Kungsträdgården.
President Sauli Niinistö said at his inauguration speech that the best celebration is one which you spend together with close friends, referring to relations between Finland and Sweden. He also called Sweden a beloved neighbor. The president gave praise also to the royal couple. Niinistö thanked for their contribution and attendance at the celebration. In addition, the President thanked everyone who has contributed to the Festival. In his speech, Niinistö raised the Finnish persistence and said that the Finns will be able to survive well for the next 100 years.

Mark Levengood hosted the STHLM/SUOMI event. His mother is finnish and father american, he lived his childhood in Finland, but he has lived in Sweden since 1980's. Levengood writes in his Twitter: "Think, that the royal couple, the President of Finland and a few thousand people are enough for a Finn to get a little moved."

That’s not all that was wrong – the Daily Mail title is misleading. It is the King and Queen of Sweden who welcomed the President of Finland Mr. Sauli Niinistö and Mrs. Jenni Haukio to Sweden; and joining the King and Queen for lunch, in honor of the Presidential Couple, was Victoria, Daniel, and CP.

President Sauli Niinistö spoke with the finnish media before he left Sweden and said that the warm atmosphere of the opening ceremony reflected his view of the very close relationship between Finland and Sweden, which has year after year only intensified. Niinistö also pointed out that he met king Carl Gustaf for the fourth time this year on Thursday.
