Strömsholm Palace

Strömsholm Palace is built on a paved islet where the Kolbäck River meets Lake Mälaren in Strömsholm.
The Palace was built between 1669-1674 for Queen Hedvig Eleonora, and was designed by Nicodemus Tessin the Elder.
Strömsholm Palace was given to Princess Sophia Magdalena of Denmark as a wedding gift upon her marriage to the later King Gustav III of Sweden in 1766.
Strömsholm Palace is today used as a hippodrome, where equestrian competitions are held every year.

Strömsholms Slott

I'd say this is my favourite .... nice little moat all the way around.

If only some-one could remove the main road ....

Thought I should explore the web for Strömsholms Slott and see what I could find.

scenes outside & inside

"On a small island in the Kolbäcksan River, somewhat of an Italianate stronghold, Strömsholm Slott surveys the lazy traffic of boats up and down the Strömsholm Canal.

Although it remains a royal castle, Strömsholm has been placed under the care of Sweden's National Horse Sports Association.

Within is an acclaimed collection of old equestrian paintings. Horse-riding and jumping contests are regularly held here, amid the beautiful park and its surroundings.

On a number of Thursday evenings from mid-June to mid-August, classical music concerts are held at the castle."

Yes, she´s been to Strömsholm at riding camps when she was in her teens.

Information from Wikipedia on the Palace can be found here.

I was there a month ago when i had my vacation, its only 30 km from were i live so i have even been biking twice to the Grand National races there.

They were to have an exebition about royal Bernadotteweddings but the only thing i saw was some curtains with the same text as you can see in a pamflett. But many intresting paintings of royal families. The top floor has one wing completly filled with paintings of horses.

Its beautiful in the summer

Is this the palace that Carl XVI Gustav wants to hand over to Carl Philip at some point?

I never heard of the king wanting to land over a palace for Carl Philip. It wouldn't look right for the king to give use of a palace to any of his children at this point. When Madeleine was engaged it was rumored that she was going to take was going to use a 'normal' home that fell under the kings management. And I believe it was also rumored that Victoria and Daniel were going to stay at the same palace as the king and queen and just move into a different wing. So to give Carl Philip a palace would just fuel the idea that he still wants Carl Philip to be King, especial when the are all much larger and grander then Haga. Besides he has already inherited a home in southern Sweden, and also was left a house by Prince Bertil that he gets use of after Lilian passing, both of these are addition to the apartment already has in Stockholm, a fourth home is just overkill.

Stromsholm Palace is sometimes called Stromsholm Castle.

Last year, the "Sessions" -outdoor concerts were started at Solliden Palace and Läckö Castle. This year there are more of those concerts, there will be eight concerts also at Strömsholm Palace.

In a cramped attic room at the baroque castle Strömsholm, there is a somewhat forgotten piece of Swedish history. It is a clock that was ordered by Queen Hedvig Eleonora and installed in 1700. The widowed queen was at that time one of Sweden's richest people and paid the equivalent of SEK half a million for the clock, which was a huge status symbol and was placed in the middle of the temple gable on the castle's entrance facade.

Strömsholm is another lovely palace both inside and outside, that is not used very much by the current royal family. It has a lovely location, outside the city of Västerås.

Victoria has visited Strömsholm Palace this spring - interesting photos and information have been shared today:

Earlier this spring, the Crown Princess visited Strömsholm Castle outside Västerås.

🏰 The Baroque Strömsholm Castle is one of the ten royal castles and was built by the Dowager Queen Hedvig Eleonora in the late 1660s.

The castle's 18th-century interiors are characterized by the Gustavian style that was created for Gustav II's queen Sofia Magdalena, who received the castle as a wedding gift.

⚔️ The castle is built on a stone-paved islet right where the flowing waters of the Kolbäcksån River flow into the Mälarviken Freden Bay. On the same islet, Gustav Vasa had a royal farm built in the 1550s, where horses were bred for the Swedish army, among other things.

🐴 The tradition of horses remains and today there is an equestrian gymnasium here and major competitions are held every year in the pleasure garden.

From Victoria's clothes we see, that she visited Strömsholm Palace on May 28 - on the same day she met at the Royal Palace Volker Türk, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights:
