Queen Silvia's Family and Siblings - The Sommerlaths

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
After the divorce, from his wife Maline, it was unusually quiet from the royal cousin Patrick Sommerlath. But now Svensk Damtidning can reveal that he has been busy moving! The royal couple has got a new tenant! Queen Silvia's nephew Patrick Sommerlath, 49, has chosen to settle in Drottningholm.
Patrick was previously registered at an address in Norra Djurgårdsstaden but now lives in Nedre sjöflygeln, which was, after all, Crown Princess Victoria's first residence. It is a intependent 18th century house, located fifty meters from the Palace, and surrounded by fantastic nature. Carl Philip and Sofia also lived Sjöflygeln when Prince Alexander came to the world.
The wing has also worked as a home for security guards and court employees, but now it is Patrick Sommerlath who lives there. The twin daughters Chloé and Anaïs, 12, live with their father every other week. Mother Maline lives at Slottsbacken in Stockholm city.
They got together for 15 years. Patrick and Maline. They met in 2003 at a party with a mutual friend and Maline has previously told Svensk Damtidning that she fell for Patrick because he made her laugh. The couple married in Paris in 2011. But they did not settle there. At the Walpurgis night the same year, wedding was also held in Sweden. And the royal couple were guests at both parties of love.
The Sommerlath couple, and their twin daughters Chloé and Anaïs, have been self-written guests at royal dinner events and celebrations. Sometimes the family has also walked the red carpet in connection with various film premieres, which is extremely unusual for people who move so close to the royal family. Patrick is Princess Leonore's godfather and had a prominent role in her baptism. And when their own twins were born, they chose Madeleine and Carl Philip as godparents. The last time we saw them in a public context was at Prince Gabriel's baptism.
But in 2018, love came to an end and the final divorce proceedings went through last April. And as far as the housing situation is concerned, you can actually say that the circle is closed. Patrick has lived at Drottningholm before. He is the son of Queen's brother Walther and came to Sweden as a 15-year-old. At that point, Patrick's parents had just divorced and the young, somewhat lost, teenage boy needed a fresh start in life. And the security was found at Aunt Silvia and the warm home out on Ekerö.

Queen Silvia has always been Patrick Sommerlath's most important safety in life and now Patrick is back at Drottningholm.
Queen Silvia's nephew Patrick Sommerlath, 48, has been an obvious part of the royal family for many years. Patrick is the son of Queen Silvia's middle brother Walther Sommerlath and his then wife Michele. Patrick grew up in Paris with his parents and older sister Sophie.
He came to Sweden as a lost 16-year-old, to secure a safe base with Aunt Silvia in connection with the parents' divorce. Sister Sophie, who was 24 at the time, remained in Paris. But Patrick stayed in Sweden and grew up side by side with cousins Victoria, Carl Philip and Madeleine at Drottningholm.
Now, many years later, the circle is closed and Patrick is back at Drottningholm again.
Although Patrick has spent most of his life in Sweden, he still has good contact with both his parents. Dad Walther lives in Italy with his new wife Ingrid while mom Michelle lives in Los Angeles.

Why now, after living many decades in Sweden?

Giulia Sommerlath has got married to Julien Heeren.

Queen Silvia is a person who takes her family ties very seriously. And Giulia Sommerlath has an important place in the Queen's heart.
Giulia is the daughter of the Crown Princess's cousin Thomas Sommerlath. She has reached the age of 24 - and she has just been through a transformative, decisive thing in life. Unfortunately, her beloved great-aunt could not attend.
Giulia Sommerlath married her boyfriend Julien Heeren last week. On Instagram, where she has a private account, Giulia has used one of the wedding photos as a profile picture.
Giulia and Julien have been together for several years. On Julien's Instagram profile, he has a love greeting for his wife: her name and a picture of a ring.
Johan Tegel at the court's information department confirms that Silvia has not left Sweden recently.
- I have no information to provide about a private wedding, however, it is the case that at the moment the Royal Family does not travel abroad, says Johan.
- Due to the pandemic, Her Majesty the Queen was not there, says Margareta Thorgren.

Queen Silvia changed everyday life in Germany to luxury in Sweden when she married her king Carl Gustaf - but she continued to get involved in the fate of the family in the GDR.
Now the queen's relative tells of how her son's life was totally changed by the invaluable help from the queen.
- It was unbelievable how much support we received. The queen sent a special chair that Alexander could use and to practice his balance, says Cornelia Grude in the book ”Carl-Gustaf Svingel och Silvias familj i det kalla krigets Berlin” (Carl-Gustaf Svingel and Silvia's family in Berlin during the Cold War).
Cornelia Grude was 21 years old when her son Alexander was born with permanent brain damage. In the GDR, there were no aids and wheelchairs for the disabled Alexander, and he is not allowed to go to preschool.
Cornelia Grude's father is Queen Silvia's cousin, and within the family it is spread how bad it is for Alexander. Newlywed Silvia hears from Stockholm and wonders how she can help.
One of Queen Silvia's employees who is a physiotherapist goes down to Germany to see what the child needs for aids.
- It was unbelievable how much support we received. The queen sent a special chair that Alexander could use and to practice his balance. We had never seen anything like it. It meant so much. In a package from Sweden came a special stroller, suitable for older children, Grude says in the book.
For Queen Silvia, it was obvious to help where she could, although more practical responsibility fell on her father.
- My father was active in supporting Cornelia. I was a bit in the background, but helped her financially, says Silvia in the book.
In the end, the family manages to move to West Berlin legally, and Silvia contributes money so that they can buy a car. Today, Alexander lives in a home without his mother, and can drive his permobile without help.
- Thanks to Carl-Gustaf Svingel and Silvia, he has been able to develop mentally, says Cornelia Grude.

Queen Silvia's 86-year-old brother Walther Sommerlath has moved into Drottningholm. This is confirmed by the court for Svensk Damtidning.
It is Queen Silvia's middle brother Walther Sommerlath, who now has his permanent home address at Drottningholm's Palace, more specifically in Crown Princess Victoria's old home Nedre Sjöflygeln, a smaller 19th century house located about 50 meters from the Palace itself.
- I can confirm that the queen's brother has been living on Drottningholm for some time, says Margareta Thorgren to Svensk Damtidning.
- But otherwise these are private family matters and nothing that the court can comment on.
Walther Sommerlath previously lived in Italy, and before that for many years in Paris. But since a week ago, he is registered at Drottningholm, in the same property as his son Patrick Sommerlath, 49, who moved here in December last year with his 12-year-old twin girls Anais and Chloé.
Nedre sjöflygeln (also called the Sea Pavilion) consists of two apartments, a smaller floor of 90 square meters and a larger one. The total living space is 381 square meters.
Previously, Nedre Sjöflygeln was used as an apartment for Säpo-guards and the staff in the household on Drottningholm. But in recent years it has also had several royal "tenants": It was here that Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel lived as newlyweds, before they moved to Haga Palace, and it was also here that Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia lived when their Villa Solbacken was renovated.
Walther Sommerlath has two children from her first marriage to Michele, son Patrick and daughter Sophie, 57, who now lives in California where she works as a teacher. Patrick Sommerlath has lived in Sweden for 33 years and has always been part of the royal extended family. He moved to Drottningholm and aunt Silvia as a lost teenager in 1987, in connection with his parents' divorce.
- He was sixteen years old when he came to Sweden. The royal couple are very nice people, who try to help. The queen is family-loving and thinks of everyone, Patrick Sommerlath's ex-wife Maline Sommerlath told Svensk Damtidning a couple of years ago.

Margareta Thorgren confirmed to Svensk Damtidning, that Walther Sommerlath has not been buried yet. Thorgren said that there is no information at the moment when the funeral takes place.
Sommerlath lived previously in Italy, and before that for many years in Paris. It was in France that he found his first wife, Michele, with whom he had children Sophie and Patrick. They divorced in 1987, and then Patrick came to Sweden.
Whether the situation in the world allows everyone who would like to attend the funeral, is unknown. Madeleine and her family live in USA, and Sommerlath's daughter Sophie and his ex-wife Michele live also in USA.

Thorgren said to Svensk Damtidning that it was very important that a death notice was told within family and with friends without the people being allowed to read it in the media first. And when everyone involved had received the information, they gave the press release because Walther Sommerlath was the queen's brother.

This explains why the king has worn mourning clothes for the past 5 days.

How very sad for the queen and family.

Queen Silvia's brother Walther Sommerlath died in October after a period of illness. Now Queen Silvia tells for the first time that her brother suffered from Alzheimer's disease. The entire interview can be seen in the program Kungahuset 2020 hosted by Rania Shemoun Olsson, broadcast on TV4 on 25 December at 20.00.
Drottning Silvia om brodern Walther Sommerlaths sjukdom - tv4.se

The court didn't tell which disease was behind the death of Walther Sommerlath. But in an interview with TV4's "Kungahuset 2020", the Queen tells for the first time about her brother's diagnosis - Alzheimer's disease.
Queen Silvia says that it is a terrible, painful disease. Gradually you suddenly become nothing in your consciousness and you can't get answers, you don't find the right. But you get annoyed, so it was very difficult to deal with it as well. Especially the last few months.
Despite that the Queen's mother also died in Alzheimers in 1997, the Queen felt unprepared for her brother's death. She says that she has worked for these issues for 25 years, but it has been a completely new situation. Alzheimer's is really something terrible, it brings great difficulties for relatives, and she felt helpless, there is no handbook that tells what she has missed, at what point he is now. Does she demand too much or too little. Can she expect him to react that way and that way. The queen doesn't know if she has handled the death of her brother yet, it may be too early to say.

I believe Tim de Toledo Sommerlath separated from his wife Kristina (Tina) sometime between summer 2017-2018.
Has anyone heard anything about this?

Queen Silvia’s niece, Giulia Sommerlath, has given birth to a child. This is the first child with her husband, Julien Heeren. The couple married 21 August 2020 in a small ceremony.

They have named the boy Leonard and he was born 1 June 2021.

Patrick Sommerlath

A big scandal that's been brewing in Sweden in the last few weeks has finally broken big in Swedish media.
Last week the Swedish press reported that a relative of the Royal family was part of a large investigation concerning prostitution of trafficked women at a Thai massage parlor in Stockholm. The police was trying to apprehend him before the statue of limitations expired this Monday. Although many have guessed the identity of the wanted man it's not until an interview in Svensk Damtidning today that it's become public knowledge that it's the Queen's nephew Patrick Sommerlath who is the man in question.
The police tried to catch him at his home at Drottningholm Palace, but he managed to avoid being seen and captured. The Court maintained that as a private citizen they have nothing to do with his personal life and have refused to comment on the matter.
Patrick has chosen to tell his side of the story in an interview in Svensk Damtidning and claims among other things that he's cooperated with the police and that he's been abroad since Tuesday last week.

Large parts of Patrick's story have been proven false in an article in Aftonbladet.

In my opinion the affair is very damaging for the Royal family. Not only on a personal level, but also for the Queen who has been one of the world's most prominent champions of the fight against trafficking and sexual exploitation and not in the least that the optics are that the Court refused to help the police apprehend a close relative.

I've been following this story the whole time, and very soon even before Stoppa pressarna revealed his name some days ago, it was easy to figure out who was the person in question. I didn't post it here because he is a private citizen and only Stoppa pressarna had published his name. But now he has told his own version.
Just as you write, it is very damaging for the Royal family especially because Patrick lives at Sjöflygeln, the house beside Drottningholm Palace (where Victoria previously lived). And it must have been a tough autum for queen Silvia and she must have felt chocked when she heard about this. The King and Queen have done so much for Patrick and he is godfather for Leonore and Julian.
Now there are speculations about if Patrick can live at a house which the King has the right of disposal anymore. We will see what happens.
It is also a pity that this happened on the King's Jubilee Year.

This is quite shocking and damaging for the Queen especially given she has a huge public platform built on protecting women and children against human trafficking and exploitation.

How convenient it is that Patrick is traveling as the news has been broken. It's not very smart and makes it look like he has something to hide.

Also how does Patrick Sommerlath who is supposedly "a private citizen" get to live in royal property that publicly funded by tax payers?

He pays rent for his apartment at Sjöflygeln, as does everyone (except princess Madeleine), who lives at the houses and apartments which the King has the right of disposal. At Drottningholm Palace area and close to it in different houses with the King's right of disposal live a lot of the court staff and people who have retired from their work at the court. For instance the former Marshal of the Realm Ingemar Eliasson and queen Silvia's chambermaid Anne Tovar.

Patrick's son Leopold lived with him at Drottningholm for some time but he has moved away.
