Patrick Sommerlath's unknown mother
Many people know that Patrick Sommerlath is Queen Silvia's nephew. But almost nothing has been known about his mother.
Queen Silvia's nephew Patrick Sommerlath, 48, has lived in Sweden for a full 32 years and has always been part of the royal family. He moved to Drottningholm and aunt Silvia as a lost 16-year-old in 1987, in connection with his parents' divorce.
His eight years older sister Sophie, best known as a flower girl at the royal couple's wedding, was then 24 and remained in Paris.
Today she is called Pihut by last name and is a French teacher at a California high school.
The fact that Patrick Sommerlath is the son of Queen Silvia's brother Walther Sommerlath, 85 (who lives in Italy with his wife Ingrid), many know. But almost nothing has been known about his mother.
Her name is Michele Sommerlath and she is French. For the first ten years after the divorce, she lived in Paris where she owned an antique shop. But now she has been living in Los Angeles for almost 22 years, where she has a well-known Gallerie Sommerlath - that sells retro furniture and gadgets to a large and enthusiastic clientele. Like here - to Lenny Kravitz himself!
Of course, living in two different parts of the world means that Patrick Sommerlath and his mother have not had an easy time meeting each other. Despite this, they still had unusually close contact:
- We have lived with her for months at times, Patrick's ex-wife Maline Sommerlath has told to Svensk Damtidning.
Michele Sommerlath was for a long time specialized in 1950s and 1960s design and Don Draper's black leather armchair in the TV series Mad Men was purchased from her. Nowadays, however, she has expanded and also sells 1970s and 1980s designs in her 1,600-square-foot warehouse in Los Angeles.
With his French mother, his German father and his upbringing in Sweden, Patrick has become very international. His mother tongue is French, but he speaks German with his father and Swedish at home with his children, 17-year-old Léopold (from the relationship with Camilla Lundén) and 11-year-old twins Anais and Chloé.
- He was sixteen when he came to Sweden. The royal couple are very nice people, who try to help. The queen is family-friendly and thinks of everyone, Maline Sommerlath told to Svensk Damtidning.
