Summary of article in Billed Bladet #46, 2013.
Written by our reporter in Mexico, Marianne Singer.
This covers the first day of the visit.
Mexico City is located in an altitude of 2.300 meters and with a population of 22 million it's the second largest city in the world.
M&F touched down Sunday evening and with them went representatives for more than 50 Danish businesses.
Monday around noon on a balmy day, the visit started. First at the anthropological museum, where the manager took them for a guided tour lasting a little more than an hour,
They also visited the Mexican President, Enrique Pena Nieto and his new wife, Angelica Rivera de Pena, who is apparantly something of a style icon in Mexico. The President's former wife died in 2007 and in all he and his present wife have six children.
They also visited the DTDUCA Foundation, which is a day care centre for people with down's syndrome. Here a donation for 100.000 $ was presented for educating people with down's syndrome in being able to live an independent life.
They also visited the children's museum Papalote, where LEGO has permanently donated bricks in order to encourage the children to build the city of the future.
Here M&F, well, mostly Mary actually, were presented with drawings and a nice letter:
"Dear Princess, we have gotten to know your country through pictures on the internet and we really liked it. The houses look good, the palaces are big and the aquarium is big. (*)...
The legend about the Copenhagener mermaid is very interesting and we know her, because Disney made a movie about her....
We wish you can one day invite us to your country, so that we can meet the king and your kingdom... We will behave well and work hard. Thank you".
At the end of the afternoon M&F were presented with the keys of the city by the mayor of Mexico City, Miquel Angel Mancera, at the townhall.
Frederik gave a short speech and started out in Spanish: "Muy buenas tardes a todos = A really good day to all of you".
In the evening the temperature dropped and the wind picked up. Here M&F went to the concert house El Plaza Condesa, where they were to watch a charity concert with among others the Ravonettes, but that was cancelled. Instead the American band Gliss went on stage.
When the Danish singer Sharin Foo went on stage, M&F had just left for a nearby restaurant, Azulcondesa.
The proceeds for the concert went to the Diarq Foundation.
(*) Don't know which aquarium they are referring to.
