No, I was not aware of that. I knew the vote was very close and I knew the results were highly suspect, especially with results being reported before all the votes were in, especially in the south which I have heard is more monarchist than the north. That is, rather outrageous really. It goes against the very principles that the republicans claimed to be championing. I'm always reminded of the law in the French constitution that forbids changing the style of government away from a republic back to a monarchy. That seems to inherently go against the so-called "spirit" of having a republic in the first place. But then, my experience has been that most die-hard republican types are so utopian they almost cannot help being hypocritical.
