Maria Theresa of Spain was an Infanta of the Spanish Empire. She belonged to the Spanish branch of the House of Habsburg.
She was born September 10, 1638. Her father was King Philip IV of Spain. Her mother was Elisabeth of France.
The negotiations between Spain and France resulted in the Treaty of the Pyrenees. The treaty included an arrangement for marriage between Maria Theresa and King Louis XIV of France.

Were Louis XIV and Maria Theresa a happy couple?

Its just a memorial her burial was desecrated in October 1793 when the royal vaults were broken open all remains dumped in a mass grave outside the former abbey church.

Queen Marie Therese's control over her son the Grand Dauphin's life was limited by King Louis XIV after the Dauphin reached a certain age.
Louis XIV did not consult Marie Therese when choosing a princess for young Louis to marry.

The queen had no real political role and played second fiddle to the powerful queen mother at the French Court.
Her relationship with the king was not at all good and he distrusted her but he did lament her passing .
The queen's last words were "Since I have been Queen, I have had only one happy day".

The detail on that costume party dress is amazing. I assume the painter had access to the dress for a long time to get every detail on it reproduced correctly.

The artist is French Court Painter Charles Beaubrun and the queen and Dauphin are wearing Polish dress.
He had also painted Louis XIV and his mother queen Anne.

I'm checking your link and did you notice something interesting right away when you see his paintings near each other? The royal paintings have the subject always moving from right to left and faces in a 3 quarter pose but eyes looking directly at you. Now I'm going to end up going down the rabbit hole and find why this technique was the standard.

:previous: What art/painting school did Charles Beaubrun attend?
