The editor of the [left-wing!] Volkskrant is always sighing that the King should never have been removed from the formation process as he would be more able to pressure the bickering politicians than any outsider is. Appeal to the national interest and such.

A well-earned move to make Kees van der Staaij a Counsellor of State at the State Council. He was considered the 'constitutional conscience' while a member of parliament for 25 years, so it is hard to find someone more qualified to advice both government and parliament about legislation and other state affairs.
