Gustavus Adolphus (9 December 1594 – 6 November 1632), also known in English as Gustav II Adolf or Gustav II Adolph, was King of Sweden from 1611 to 1632, and is credited for the rise of Sweden as a great European power (Swedish: Stormaktstiden). During his reign, Sweden became one of the primary military forces in Europe during the Thirty Years' War, helping to determine the political and religious balance of power in Europe. He was formally and posthumously given the name Gustavus Adolphus the Great (Swedish: Gustav Adolf den store; Latin: Gustavus Adolphus Magnus) by the Riksdag of the Estates in 1634.

She was a daughter of John Sigismund, Elector of Brandenburg, and Anna, Duchess of Prussia, daughter of Albert Frederick, Duke of Prussia.

In 1620, Maria Eleonora married Gustavus Adolphus with her mother's consent, but against the will of her brother George William, Elector of Brandenburg, who had just succeeded her father. She bore her husband a daughter, Christina in 1626.

Why did King Gustav II Adolf enter the Thirty Years War?

It was interesting that one of Maria Eleonora's suitors included the future King Charles I of England. If they had married, would the Commonwealth of England have occurred?
Queen Maria Eleonora spoke and wrote most often in French, which was the court language.

He was one of many suitors for Maria Eleonora of Brandenburg, another was Władysław IV Vasa,King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania but he was devoutly Roman Catholic and went for a Habsburg bride in the end.

The oldest queen's crown in the Treasury was created in 1620 for Maria Eleonora's coronation. The crown is in gold, studded with diamonds and rubies. The cross globe is made of enamel and decorated with diamonds representing the sun, moon and stars. The crown was made by the German goldsmith Ruprecht Miller.

Maria Eleonora's brother George William was not in favor of the future union of his sister and Gustav II Adolf. He feared it would lead to conflict with Poland.

Yes, the interests of Brandenburg would be at peril given the conflict between Sweden and Poland at the time. Her mother did move forward with the courtship inviting Gustavus Adolphuso to a chaperoned dinner where he proposed. Of course, her brother was still opposed to the union hence the dinner was held in Berlin while her brother was in Prussia. The Duchess ignoring her sons protests and agreeing to the marriage smuggled Maria out of Brandenburg to Mecklenburg where a Swedish ship was waiting to take her to Gustavus and to her new life as a royal wife.

Did George William finally accept his sister's marriage to King Gustav II Adolf?

I wonder what sort of relationship Queen Maria Eleonora had with her daughter Queen Christina?

Here you can read about Maria Eleonora and her life in Sweden. The relationship between mother and daughter would have been complicated, and she had little to do with the upbringing of Christina, who had been placed with her paternal aunt in 1636, at the age of ten. I think their personalities were too different, and in her selfbiography Christina was keen to distance herself from typical feminine qualities such as those her mother had. With todays terminology, I guess Christina could be labeled as transgender.
