:previous: You all are right of course, I just hate when people like to throw the word "fat" around. It comes across as mean and nasty.

And for the record, I also hate when people pick on skinny women (some who are just naturally thin). At a time when woman are always judged on their looks and their weight I find it disheartening when we throw around words that can wound people.

Thats it...off my soap box for now anyway.

At end of the day...best dressed Letizia and questionable is Maxima. I think it would like awful on anyone but on Maxima is looked Maxima. Maybe she was channeling Laurentien for the day.

And we don't know if her husband is not absolutely adoring this very female, soft and warm body of his wife (I know a lot of men who hate it when their wifes start a new diet....).

Any european GP would take a look at MT and without her standing on a scale say "you need to lose a bit of weight".

I think it is unrespectfull to call a person 'fat'
I hate it when people talk like this, you are fat because you dont have the courage to stay on a diet and exercise daily = a lack of character
You are anorexic because you don't have the courage to eat properly = another lack of character
We are dwelling of this thread though!
MT has always been like she is and good for her!!!

Its a very old tradition in the Catholic church that women wear head coverings while attending Mass. Its not actually required these days after some of the modernization of the liturgy and requirements (like head coverings, fasting before receiving Holy Communion and not eating meat on Friday) but I think a lot of women do stick to the traditions of a head covering in church.

I personally find that women wearing hats and gloves to church and weddings and such a tradition that I wish was still very much popular with the general population. It makes me sigh going to a wedding and seeing women dressed as if they're heading out to the beach or a picnic.
 
Well yeah, but hats were meant to be wrong out of respect and modesty and i'm not sure all the hats worn would fit that bill :)

I don't know what 'GP' is, but I think most well-mannered people would not say something like that to ANYONE unless they were a. Super-close friends or b. their physician.

Since no one on this board is any of that, please stop calling her fat and show some respect.
 
I might be a lone voice, but I actually like what MT wore at Mass. She was absolutely radiant and she didn't steal the show not at all. That Elie Saab dress made Stephanie shine in a way that nothing else could have resisted.
I don't actually mind that bright colour, I find quite nice when people wears bright colours at wedding. I remember Queen Margrethe wore a fuchsia coat at Frederik's wedding.
I remember the exact frame where the cameras were framing her during the wedding and she was smiling because the guests in the church applauded at the newlyweds: she was just glowing and she's so beautiful that you can hardly believe she's already 56.
I loved the dress (even if I'd have gone for a real brooch) and the turbant hat. Her beauty made the rest.

What I saw was a matronly Grand Duchess. Unfortunately for us that approach our late 50s and early 60s, nature just has a way of rearranging our bodies and things aren't where they used to be and for the most part, we realize that we're never going to be the fit, slim and lissom as we were in our younger years and we come to accept it.

As far as the Grand Duchess' weight, I really didn't see anything that would indicate that her body was anything different than a bazillion other women (me included) in her age group are. TBH, when she stepped out of the car with her son, I thought she appeared years younger than her 56 years. Up until this wedding, I really didn't have a clue who was who but caught on quick that Guilliame was with his mother.

Weight gain is still a mystery. Yes, middle aged women like MT usually gain weight, although not always. Still, she looked beautiful in that color she wore to the mass, and she was full of joy, so that's better than "thin" and worried. If MT wishes to "get in shape", how about a call to Prince Daniel, Princess Victoria's sports trainer before their marriage (and probably still, as Victoria is in wonderful "shape"). I'm about 20-30 pounds heavier than when I was young and I know how hard it is to lose weight, but being physically active is a good place to start. As I've suggested here before, I recommend ALL the royal ladies get rid of their 4-5 inch heels and wear more sensible shoes and therefore feel better about vigorous walking for health! Sorry to preach but I admire this family so much. Anyway MT won't read what I wrote, but maybe someone who knows her might. Exercise could be important! More grandkids on the way (Tessy and Louis first?) and she will need her vim and vigor for that!
 
Sorry, she is heavy, but that is not, totally the problem. I have no idea, no do any of us about her health issues and her weight might not be a problem at this stage. Her outfit for the church was unbecoming and made her look heavier. The night before at the gala, she looked stunning. I am a great deal older than M-T, and somewhat heavier than I was, but I try to pick what looks well on me. She is a beautiful woman. Look at her face. Lovely. Sometimes she has outfits that make her look lovely and sometimes she picks things that make people say, why would somone her weight wear that? Plus size women can look just as good as anyone, it is wearing the appropriate clothes.
 
Some weight problems are hard to figure out. I was very obese and even though I weighed and measured my food, and exercised like crazy, I couldn"t lose weight. Then I found a smart Doctor who checked me for all kinds of things. What came back was an allergy to gluten. As soon as I eliminated wheat from my diet, I began to lose weight. I hope MT is healthy, but please don"t criticize people for their weight. You don"t know anything about their problems, or how many tears they have shed over the problem. Be kind.
 
Lumutqueen, do you really wear 7 inch heels? Really? You are a far better woman than I am! I did wear "point" shoes when doing ballet, from age 8 (too young) to 16, and perhaps they deformed my feet enough so that heels above 2 l/2 inches hurt. But I never bought very expensive shoes (hundreds of dollars a pair) which I believe these ladies wear, and they may be better for comfort. No, don't want beautiful Stephanie in just flats, there are some lovely shoes in 2 l/2 inch heels. Most of them are by European manufacturers, particularly the Dutch one (won't mention name of firm as it might not be OK hereto do so).

It wasn't "someone" who threw a coat over her, she carried it herself on the way to the church, you can see it in her left hand on the first photo. Maybe "Hurry on Marie Christine, we are going to be late, just grab your jacket and let's go!"

Being of somewhat short stature myself, and more well padded than I used to be, I think she is absolutely delightful. She is a woman who exudes the joy of life, of family, of motherhood, and every time there is a gathering of the great and the good, I look to see what Maria Theresa is wearing, how she has her hair done, to deeply envy her choice of shoes. She is not a model, she is a real woman and one I can personally relate to, although, truth be told, she has such terrific resources . . . oh how I would love a cruise through her wardrobe!

They don't wear heels all day, every day. I'm sure they wear more comfortable shoes and exercise at other moments.
 
When G & S were doing their walk about after the civil ceremony, there was an instant where S almost took a tumble, but was able to recover. I can't find a video clip. Perhaps she twisted her ankle.

OMG...I saw that on video! :eek:

She came very close to taking a spill right there on the street but recovered quickly and nicely...all you saw was a quick jerky movement and lots of blonde hair flying. She was wearing high Chanel pumps.

What a nightmare if she had twisted or broken her ankle the day before her Church ceremony...I honestly don't see how she would have made it down the aisle with a bad ankle and that heavy bridal gown! :sad:

Stephanie should make learning to walk properly in heels a priority when she returns from honeymoon. :ermm:

Princess Lalla Salma the most elegant lady??? I can her imagine to go to bed in this robe and with this nothing-hair, not to a wedding...
And Mary... It is a nothing special costume for an ordinary/average day, but not to this wedding.
Princess Maxima seems as she would go to a hunting-party...
I found Princess Caroline very elegant, very beautiful, a really aristocrat, who knows, how she dress up to an wedding in this standard.
I found also Princess Mathild very elegant, also Princess Victoria and Princess Letizia.
But I don't like the outfit the Countess of Wessex, Princess Mette-Marit (but the Valentino-jacket is very elegant, only to dark for this occassion), Martha-Louise, Marie-Chantal and Clothild Courau.

To me most elegant lady was the sister of the late Countess Alix of Lannoy, who was escorted into the cathedral by GD Henri. Both Henri and the sister were beaming. She wore a suit the same color as that of GD Maria Teresa. If you have a picture you might put it up. No one seemed to notice her, but I did.
The Lannoy family produced several elegant ladies. One was Nathalie Hamilton, who was dressed in a graceful flowing black dress, in mourning still for her mother, but still looking wonderful.
Another I can't remember the name of. She read from the scriptures at the end of the wedding when several other members of her family and of Guillaume's family were reading. She was all in Fall colors, brown with colorful flowers and leaves, and a neat hat with a medium-wide brim. She went by quickly but I noticed how coordinated and lovely was her outfit.
