Thanks FigTree for clarifying the location.

Can now see on Google Earth that the property on Queen Victoria Walk matches the available photos of Adelaide Cottage.

Can’t understand why the wrong location has been shown, not just by some newspapers, but also some of the glossies … though they may just have reproduced the mistake.

Thanks for bringing this up Somebody.

The correct location looks much more open than the one enclosed by trees.

Four photos from Matrix, more or less the same, but one shows how close they are to the Thames River - (though it’s pretty zoomed-in I think.)

https://www.matrixpictures.com.au/image/I0000eDrDYF7Maq8

Looking at Google Maps... Seems to be about 1700-2000 feet from the river, which is about 1/3 of a mile, so not THAT close, but certainly not too far at all.

To me the move makes absolutely no sense.
1. They already had a home in the country that they could retreat to on the weekends.
2. They're busier than ever especially as the Queen's health declines and their workload increases. A London base just makes sense for the majority of the week anyway. Furthermore their team, secretary, PR people and advisors are all based at KP.
3. Kate's family is still far away. To me "closer" would be a 10 minute drive instead of the over 30 mile drive away.
4. The kids' new school is a 9 mile drive from their new home. Again not exactly convenient.
5. The kids seemed to enjoyed living in London. There were reports of Kate taking the kids shopping and her taking Charlotte to shows in London.
Just my 2 cents

I believe that the Queen and Prince Charles might have had quite a good deal of prodding in having them move to this cottage. Nothing is accomplished without the idea and approval of Her Majesty. Plus, I think they will be moving into Windsor once Charles is King which is so close, and the children will be extremely familiar with the walking areas. Charles stated he will be moving into Buckingham Palace at that time and never wanted to live at Windsor. Just a thought and I think a good move for the young family.

I agree that an eventual move to Windsor Castle when Charles takes the throne is very possible and that any move any of them make right now is with the knowledge that the Queen is 96 years old. If they are happy with Lambrook and all the kids go until age 13, that’s 9 years until Prince Louis is done and his parents will certainly be Prince and Princess of Wales by then. And when the kids are done with Lambrook- Eton and Marlborough and other schools that they’d likely consider are in reasonable proximity.

This feels like setting them up for where they will be until their kids are all over 18 and I have no doubt it was carefully considered over a long period of time.

I wonder if that part of the river is safe for messing about on rowboats.

And in future years, will the family take up water-skiing there … at Sunninghill …. like Charles and Margaret were photographed in the old days?

Or horses like Louise and Andrew are seen these days.

Well I think its nice news for The Cambridge Family. An absolutely beautiful Windsor location, close by to the Queen, Middletons and Pippa's family too.
Outside of the Kensington fishbowl, with the much loved "country pursuits" all at hand. All three children attending the same school as a bonus. It is both for day students and boarders too. Nice as they get older.

I'm not rich, by any means but I also don't really fault them over the criticized 3 Home situation either.
My father was an electrician and my mother a secretary, but they had a Home in Massachusetts and while both still worked bought a Condo in Florida.
When they retired, they spent Summer- Fall in Mass and Winter -Spring in Florida, like many. Same as some People there have a summer house on Cape Cod or the Lake Areas of New Hampshire.

Here in Pennsylvania, many of our family and friends live here, with also a New Jersey house or condo. Lovely beaches.
Many are planning on selling the primary PA house, keeping the NJ one for summer and buying a winter place in Florida.

People's housing plans usually evolve. Moves aren't all that unusual.
The Cambridge's needs and desires changed as their Family grew. And Adelaide Cottage certainly isn't ostentatious by any means. But Windsor's security is top notch too, I'm sure that also played a factor.

So, that being said, with a very wealthy member of the Windsors, A future King no less, having three residences, I find it much ado about nothing.

It's a very popular stretch of the river - in summer it's busy with paddleboards, kayaks, canoes, self-drive small day boats, hire cruisers and trip boats. And, quite often, swimmers! But not so many rowing boats, they're not so popular at the moment although there is a small hire fleet in Windsor.

In Winter it's quite different, the river can flow very quickly and it's often unsafe even for boats with engines.

We're often out on a boat on that stretch, I'll have to keep a closer lookout for royal boaters now!

Thanks for the insight Drakes, I had no idea it was so busy … I think I was fantasising “ Wind in the Willows” and them having the area to themselves.

Yes, keep a lookout as time goes on. I saw where Kate said she is big on everyone being outside as much as possible, so expect they will make as much of what Windsor offers as they can.

That part is in Datchet beside a quite busy main road coming from Windsor. There is a golf course across the road and people fish and go back and forth on boats and things. It isn’t part of the estate and their house is pretty far in. At the moment you can barely see it. The estate too has a lake at least so they aren’t without water.

From a school run point of view it makes sense - the children's old school was 14 minutes by car from KP - but that is what time it says on a Sunday night at 9pm - for a Monday at 8.15am you are looking at over half an hour. Then of course a return journey and you are looking at over an hour to drop off then one of them doing the same to pick up.

Now they are looking at around 15 mins, so half the time for each journey. They weren't exactly overwhelmed by work when they were at KP so I don't see it making a huge difference. If anything it maybe means there will be more public engagements where they don't necessarily need to be "in the office". Edward and Sophie manage it largely working from Bagshot with staff at BP.

I am sure having a motorcade with them, which I presume is the case, mitigates the traffic in London.

Although Lambrook is off some beaten tracks. It surprises me kids get the bus from west London to be honest.

I don’t know if they did have motorcades FigTree.

I’ve seen photos on Twitter … taken from European magazines at different times … of Kate and George, with school friends, standing in the street looking at this or that, having gotten out of the car as the traffic has been at a standstill for so long.

Poor Charlotte got caught short one time too. Kate had to take her into a pub to use the loo as they couldn’t get through the traffic and home in time.

There is a YouTube channel that videos lots of official motorcade, motorcycle outriders, their helicopter and so on … more about the vehicles than the Royals.

There were some loud and action-packed videos posted around the time of the Jubilee.

It is quite a process with crowd control … lots of inattentive pedestrians wandering in the way, and others trying to ignore instructions and cross anyway, one or two motorcycles zipping ahead of the actual cars, then racing off again to keep the next intersection open, very dramatic stuff.

Not really that’s how they do it. Even when the street is empty. And magazines shouldn’t be posting pictures of George and Charlotte and definitely not their friends. It will be impossible to get them now though. Like I said Lambrook is off the beaten tracks really.

Good points about the Wessexes working mostly from Bagshot while their staff are in London. Anne's also able to go about her work from Gatcombe Park as her staff are also located in London too like Edward and Sophie's.

Members of the RF rarely have police outriders for private trips. For the school run they would be followed by protection officers in back up cars but no sirens and blue lights to get them through the traffic any quicker, the police outriders are provided by the met police and are used for official or high profile occasions only.

Hmm. Last time I was in London, a motorcade went by with blue lights. I was able to see from the sidewalk that it was for the Duke of Kent and also I looked at his schedule that day and he had an official engagement but nothing major. I think it’s used more often than that.

Edited to add: you’re probably right about the private/official designation of when they’re allowed and I should have read more closely

If its listed in the Court Circular they will almost certainly have had outriders to get there on any part of the journey. I doubt they get anything for school run - we'd have heard about it by now. There have been pictures o W&C both on the journey, both apparently "stuck in traffic".

Interesting point to think about, while I think they absolutely can work away from KP, I wonder if Adelaide has enough space for them to have an office/work space area. When they were at Anmer in lockdown they did end up going to Sandringham to work (or record videos/vide calls at least).

I’d be surprised if work space in Windsor castle couldn’t be made available pretty easily, with their staff still out of Kensington

I wondered if the Cambridge family had enough room in the actual Adelaide Cottage house … the pale gingerbread looking building … what is happening with the red-brick Adelaide Lodge building just a few steps away.

It looks big enough for close family staff to live there, and might be set up as the place where the work of being William and Kate is done, with the family home left as strictly that, for family life.

Here is a link to a screen-shot someone has done … my own Google Earth screen-shot won’t post.

Nobody will live or work in Adelaide Lodge. It's inhabitable because it was built in a hill without support or something like that. Royal reporters have been briefed about this and they have included it in their stories. William and Kate only have Adelaide Cottage.

Thanks jesam, I had no idea about that.

Even if it wasn’t anything major there would have been a timing issue if it was an official engagement so could see the reason for escort as you describe but not the school run.

No, pretty sure they do not have a motorcade for the school run.

Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, accompanied by their parents the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, are greeted by Headmaster Jonathan Perry as they arrive for a settling in afternoon at Lambrook School, near Ascot in Berkshire.

Settingly in afternoon was I believe in July and judging by the weather it looks to have been filmed then. Lovely compromise to do this then and not interfere with the families tomorrow.

On second thoughts does look like it’s today.

I love Louis's look: very determined and curious at the same time.

All three children are very blond in the summer months although George is the only one who appears to actually be blond…the other two are quite dark most of the year. Kate was really quite blond as a young child though.

It looks like William is trying to get Louis to hold his hand as well but Louis is having none of it. He is fine with just holding mom's hand.
