King Juan Carlos performed the PCR test after contacting tennis player Rafael Nadal, who had a positive result for COVID-19.
The Royal House informed this Monday that King Juan Carlos, who is vaccinated, is doing well and does not show any symptoms.
King Juan Carlos has already performed a rapid antigen test, but performed a PCR to get the definitive result.

JC looks fine for 84. Looks like he's preparing to return to Spain indeed.

So, he wants to return to Spain at a time that doesn't create any 'instability' for the reign of his son Felipe. Not sure how he is going to determine that time and whether it will ever occur (depending on how you define 'instability' - it will at least create some temporary ripples/ruffles).

King Juan Carlos passed the covid in secret and had to be transferred to the hospital in the emir's helicopter
Last November, Juan Carlos I had to cancel an appointment that he had pending due to having been infected with coronavirus. This is revealed by the newspaper El Mundo, which reports that the king emeritus, father of Felipe VI, received the help of the emir, Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, a person with whom he was going to meet but could not due to this contagion and who sent him a personal helicopter to be able to take him to the hospital and get him treated immediately.
Always according to the same information, after not presenting serious symptoms and testing negative after several days in the health center, the emeritus king returned to the residence where he resides.

I thought Queen Sofia was in Florida?

Probably she has in the meantime returned. Perhaps they want to celebrate their recent Diamond Wedding Anniversary. :whistling:

King Juan Carlos returns to Abu Dhabi, after spending the weekend in Spain.

Queen Sofia has tested positive for Covid 19 upon her return from Miami, the Palace has confirmed today, see here.

If I was more cynical I might say that is one way to have to stay just that bit further away from Juan Carlos.

Don't worry, he'll be back ;)
This first trip back to our country and more specifically to Sanxenxo, will be followed by a second visit that already has a date. Telmo Martín, mayor of the municipality, said that the former head of state told him that he would return to attend "the sailing world championship, which is from June 10 to 18, to defend the title." The King, as skipper of the Bribon, won in 2017 in Vancouver and in Finland 2019 the title of world champion.

Bless her! I am sure she is not too upset at the timing of the infection. :flowers:

Hope it is all mild and she recovers swiftly.

Queen Sofía was at the Zarzuela family meeting with King Juan Carlos which included King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia. She must have only found out that she had the virus afterward.

This visit was sort of a trial run. I am surprised JC was so warmly received in his homeland. I believe that he was emboldened by the success of the visit, and I agree that he will return soon.;)

Is that a statement of fact, or an informed guess?

As per the Spanish Royal House
Queen Sofia has tested positive for Covid 19 upon her return from Miami

The kings mother was in Florida and returned either Sunday or Monday so I'd imagine it was afterwards.

Good excuse also to keep ones distance in a very awkward Family reunion ;)

Not really, JC has always been a people's person, very folksy, especially his own generation has mellowed with age and have made their peace with him. He's done a lot for the country and made too many mistakes at the end.

He will produce a lot of costs, going back and forth with the private jet, but obviously no problem for the rich entourage.

Speaking of the entourage: it seems that the duke of Calabria was the king's escort for most of te days. He waswit te king in te sail boat and next to him during te volleybal match at least.

Well spotted and the duke of Calabria being a cousin was a good choice.

I hope Queen Sofia recovers well.

I saw the pictures online of Queen Sofia walking next to King Juan Carlos, and then seated together during the Funeral event. All I thought is awkward! They have been separated for years and in the Spanish press he was exposed trying to end his marriage while proposing to that lady I won't name here in the same line as Queen Sofia. But I'm sure, and hope, the Queen had the last say in every interaction.

Their interaction was sweet and loving with some moments of humour. They are mortals on an unbelievably long and eventful road where a throne was lost (Greece) and a throne was gained (Spain) with fabulously highs and dreadful lows, from attempted coup d'états to glory years.

Don Juan Carlos de Borbón y Borbón and Doña Sofía de Grecia y Hannover do not need to crawl together in a lits-jumeaux. They are professionals enough to give acte-de-présence to the farewell of a fellow Sovereign and - like themselves- a fellow descendant of Queen Victoria.

That doesn't change the fact that like many a wife whose husband has taken off, Sofia has wanted absolutely nothing to do with him since he re-exiled himself (and not that much before then). Can they be friendly for one day in public for the funeral of a close old friend and relative? Sure. Is the cold war continuing after one day of détente? That too.
