Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex

again, concerning titles. I always understood that Phillips title "duke of edinburgh" would go to Edward. yes, I know it went to Charles.....but now he is King. does he have to "award" the title to Edward? would Edward be Prince Edward, duke of Edinburgh, Earl of Wessex?

Charles would need to recreate the title Duke of Edinburgh for Edward. At the time of his wedding, this was communicated as something that the Duke of Edinburgh, late Queen and then Prince of Wales agreed upon.

If the title is conferred Edward and Sophie will be known as TRH The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh.

See this thread for a full explanation. or join the discussion about British titles here if you have any more questions.

I hope this visit gets the coverage it deserves.

I don't think any media has gone with - beside one photographer. Lets see what comes out.

Sophie has done several trips on this issue and coverage has been minimal but I hope we get something. Sexual and gender based violence in war and as deliberate weapons in war are a very important set of complex issues that she is a long term champion of and both those aspects deserve recognition.

The Countess of Wessex is such a lovely person, she and her husband seem to work tirelessly on behalf of the RF. The DM article stated this current trip to the DRC was at the request of the foreign office. Security is very tight so may limit the amount of press covering the trip. Sophie's visit is taking place in the run-up to the International Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict Initiative Conference in London next month, which is being hosted by the UK Government and which the countess will attend.

And a belated addition:

On September 27 the Countess of Wessex as Patron of the Treloar Trust visited Treloar School and College, Powell Drive, Holybourne:

I got emotional just reading about her visit to the hospital yesterday and the incredible work the staff and volunteers are doing in all areas of recovery after sexual and gender based violence. To do that and then visit the memorial today is heavy going, although as I'm sure she'd point out, nothing compared to the victims.

I am glad these visits to the DRC and next door Rwanda are receiving coverage considering their level of importance. Sophie Countess of Wessex is truly an amazing woman.

Today, October 6, the Countess of Wessex attended a reception for the empowerment of women and girls at the British High Commissioner's Residence in Kinshasa:

Meanwhile the Earl of Wessex was in Newcastle today, to thank the "local emergency services, volunteers and council staff who lent their support to the State Funeral of Queen Elizabeth":
