Dutch State Visit to Norway: 9-11 November 2021

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
I noticed that as well. My guess is that it was planned this way. Apparently both men leave it to their wives to take care of the presents...

They are indeed 'equivalent' in status, however, that makes it even weirder that Märtha Louise was given the House order and not the Order of the Crown...

The House Order and the Crown Order are effectively the same. For some reasons Queen Juliana wanted to distinguish in granting the House Order to Dutch compatriots (fully Orange riband) and the Crown Order to Foreigners (Orange riband lined with the Dutch tricolore). For the rest these are identical.

Such medals are mostly given to meritorious staff working for the King or his House. The equivalent is given to -for an example- members of the Norwegian Household, like functionaries whom have actively been involved in organizing this State Visit.

Where was the Crown Prince during the Norway State Dinner November 9-11, 2021? I see that is why Princess Martha Louise was filling in,

Interesting hat worn by Sonja. I didnt know that she used to work for an eastern European airline back in the Soviet days.

Very funny! The hat does look la bit like a kokoshnik.

Exquisit! I love all the gowns of the royal ladies. I´m happy Queen Sonja finally wears her "80th birthday dress" one more time.

Indeed. Not only did Sonja repeat her 80th birthday gala dress, Mette Marit also wore the dress she first wore that evening (she has repeated it since), and Maxima also wore the sapphire tiara she had worn for the 80th birthday gala.

Was Princess Astrid unable to attend?

It was really nice to see Princess Martha Louise present and hope the Crown Prince is feeling better!

See previous posts. The crown prince had a cold and stayed home out of concern for the others.

And Märtha Louise was already scheduled to take part before Haakon decided on the last moment that he unfortunately wasn't able to join in.

Interesting that the Crown Princess and probably also the Crown Prince have not been upgraded to the Order of the Dutch Lion as this one was given to the danish Crown Prince and Crown Princess by King Willem-Alexander.

That was a strange appointment... As far as i know, no other Crown Princely couple has ever recived the highest dutch order before accession..... Not even The Prince of Wales recived it during the dutch state visit to UK in 2018...

It has usually been The Order of Orange-Nassau for the hereditary couple (Charles does have it but for some reason always opts for the lower Order of the Crown instead when a dutch order is required)

It will be interesting to see during a dutch state visit to Sweden (wich can’t be that far away) what dutch order The Crown Princess and Prince Daniel will recive...

I hope Princess Astrid’s abscence have nothing to do with bad health.... She is usually always present during state visits...

But then she attended the Gala Dinner for the Sorting 2 weeks ago. Perhaps she had other Plans for these days.

The Prince of Wales indeed is Ridder Grootkruis in de Orde van Oranje-Nassau and the previous Princess of Wales was Dame grootkruis in the Kroonorde (Huisorde van Oranje), see picture. I assume the wearing of the lower Kroonorde at Dutch events (see picture) probably is a little gaffe by the British Court. Like Prince Philip by accident appeared with a Order from Congo (formerly a Belgian colony) at the funeral of King Baudouin (see picture).

I have searched for the Royal Decree concerning the granting of Ridder (Dame) grootkruis in de Orde van de Nederlandse Leeuw to Crown Prince Frederik and -Princess Mary of Denmark. The search function on overheid.nl says that original Royal Decrees contain recommendations or considerations of personal and private nature. Therefore the reason for granting an Order is sometimes in the discretion of the King (even when this is a State Order) and not published.

Why would it be odd? He did spend a significant amount of time in America while WWII was going on. He was quite young and he definitely would’ve picked up an American accent while there. Plus it’s nice sometimes to not always hear a British accent when a royal speaks in English.

Because a few years ago I think he was able to speak British English more distinctly, though I'd have to listen again. That would be the "odd". The "normal" would be given his age and the fact American English is his original exposure to the language, it's not so strange that he's blending a bit.

Frankly I still want to know if someone insisted Harald had to learn posh English because his American accent wasn't considered suitable. (I love Harald dearly — and I am American — but American Harald sounds less like FDR and more like he belongs in a 40's gangster flick.)
(Albert of Monaco's accent, that ain't.)

So also Mette-Marit adheres the three ensembles a day regime during State Visits. I hope Máxima taked note and returns to it too. When she escorted Beatrix she followed her three ensembles a day regime. Probably the Dutch whirlwind schedule leaves no option but that was the royal couple's own "fault" to cram so much in a program.

Maybe he picked it up spending more time in England or around the British, as he did in the USA.

I don’t hear anything unusual in his speech you posted. He just sounds like an English (American) speaking Norwegian man to me. From the way you described him, I was expecting him to sound like Joe Pesci [emoji23] I was actually disappointed [emoji6]

Anyway, you for explaining! [emoji1384]*♀️

The naval ship http://zr.ms . Rotterdam regularly participates in training courses in Norwegian waters and today moors in the port of Oslo. The Royal Couple is on the ship at a meeting about defense cooperation between the Netherlands and Norway.

I LOVE seeing the Crown Princess participating in this engagement:flowers:! Sad she wasn´t there for the concert, and even more sad the Crown Prince has got a flu...! I hope he has a speedy recovery!

So, nobody from the royal family was at the concert? Probably Haakon was scheduled to attend? If it was too much for his wife, it would have been nice if Märtha Louise could have stepped in.

I saw the dress of Maxima and I thought 'interesting'. It's a good, maybe even great dress.

As well Märtha Louise.
Really? In this video from the concert she was nowhere seen in the audience. And there are no photos of the dutch royal couple greeting her. As the King´s daughter she would have sit in the 1st row.

Last day today and King Willem Alexander with Queen Maxima visit Trondheim. With them the Crown Prince Couple ( and Haakon yes!)
That´s great - so happy he has improved!:flowers:

Willem-Alexander must not get cold. Even Maxima is bundled up in a coat and scarf today but he seems all right in his suit jacket?

Good to see Haakon back in action!

It was reported he had 'a cold'. So, I don't think he was that ill but didn't want to infect others with a cold; especially because that might require quarantining because the symptoms are somewhat similar to Covid.

We don't know the meaning of a State Visit in this thread.
But I read on newroyals that to day they visited Maritime Robotics to take a closer look at their maritime Research devices, including autonomous vehicles and maritime drones. They also spoke to Students and Researchers of the Norwegian University of Science and technologie about maritime developments. I am sure the King of the Netherlands had with him this day an important staff involved in Maritime.
It is certainly an interesting subject for the Crown Prince of Norway who was present on this cold and rainy day.

The day before they visited with the King and the Queen of Norway the Deichman Library where there was a Seminar on human rights and Freedom.
