But she is given it only for a few days. In your own Monarchy when the present King would have died before his oldest daughter would have turned 18 you would have gone to an argentinian born woman as Regent for her. And you also had a german born woman acting as Regent for her daughter for 8 years.

But okay, apparently the Danes are happy with it. In most monarchies the King, and the King only, can execute the (theoretical) royal privilege unless a Regent is appointed (which is not an easy procedure in most monarchies.)

According to all polls and myself, we are indeed happy with Mary as Rigsforstander.
She (and Queen Ingrid with whom she is so often compared) has earned the trust and confidence of not only QMII but also the politicians. There is no way Mary would be appointed Rigsforstander if the politicians didn't have faith in her. That may IMO very well not have been the case with PH.

Even critics of Frederik, and there are still quite a few around, are delighted that Mary is there and exercise the influence she does. (I refer off hand to a recent article in BT by Ditte Okmann - a professional opinion-maker.)
It's a question of being practical. Mary is there, she can fulfill the task (also in the worst case scenario) being a very experienced senior royal, - use her.

As for Mary being a Hobart commoner, that doesn't hold water.
Mary is the Crown Princess, a very experienced and trusted senior royal. She has lived half her adult life as a high ranking royal - it's natural to her now.
Anyway, QMII can appoint anyone (provided a few criteria are met) to be Rigsforstander, also from outside the DRF. If I was a member of the State Church, she could in theory appoint me. - Even before Joachim. - And there is very little, if any, blue blood in me. - My family appears to have been peasants since the glaciers retreated...

The Regent is always the Heir.
But the Rigsforstander is someone who is experienced and trusted enough to fulfill the task, preferably from within the DRF.

The two Houses of Parliament have to assemble in a special joint session, to read and debate a Bill on the appointment of a Regent and have to approve it with a 2/3rd majority. That Regent is double tied by A - the Cabinet and B - a Regency Council which has to approve and consent all acts of the Regent as they are the guardians of the minor King. So there is a democratic mandate first and a strict control second. I think it is not comparable.

QMII and Frederik are of course not going to Germany to enjoy the view.
As with most things in life it's about money. Because this is QMII's second state visit to Germany, normally you go for a state visit to a given country once during a reign. But the only purpose of rules is to bend them...

Germany is the largest export market, with countries like China, Sweden, USA at the top and now to a lesser degree UK.
So this visit is very much to show the flag, help Danish commerce and especially to cement the good relations between DK and Germany.

Because after Brexit and with a trade war and/or a hard Brexit looming in the horizon that's important, because UK was the 5th largest export market for Danish products, not least agricultural products like pork.
So since 2016 in anticipation of the worst case scenario for Danish export to Britain, other markets have been cultivated heavily. China in particular, but also Korea and Japan have replaced Britain as major export markets for poultry, dairy and and pork, especially China, who would buy our entire production of pork if they could! So there is a big interest in increasing the export to Germany.
Germany on the other hand is interested in Danish know how, especially in regards to IT-infrastructure where DK is up front and Germany intends to improve their IT infrastructure massively, since they discovered that they were hopelessly behind during the lockdowns in connection with Corona.

So I am certain we can expect a follow up visit within a couple of years, probably involving M&F, to promote additional Danish export within the sectors the Germans are most interested in, and for the signing of the final contracts in the background. - That's pretty typical for Danish commerce offensives headed by the DRF.

Nice to see the Prussian tiara on HM, rather suitable in Berlin and even more so in Bellevue. A previous inhabitant of the castle was Dss Alexandrine of Mecklenburg, née Pss of Prussia. Via her mother Princess Marianne of the Netherlands she became the owner of the other & identical pearl poiré tiara.

I really hope they found that centre pearl in time. Looks like it was lost during the very short period between them posing at the bottom of the staircase and entering the room

The state banquet that was planned for tomorrow evening in Munich has been cancelled by Bavaria's Prime Minister Markus Söder following the rising corona numbers in Germany.

While his mother struggled with replacing her hearing aide, Frederik quietly offered: "Shall I stand in front of you?" (Skal jeg stå foran dig lidt?) - In order to shield her from the photographers.
To which QMII responded: "We have no secrets here." (Vi har ingen hemmeligheder her.)

Also in regards to her walking past people she was supposed to greet.
She's 81, she's allowed to lose sight for a moment, and perhaps being slightly confused. - So many faces, so much activity, so many impressions to deal with.
- It sure would unsettle me from time to time!

The visit formed the framework for the launch of "NEUSTART", which is a new initiative for modern, Danish music on the German market in 2022. That is absolutely true. Yesterday our Ministerpräsident told that the state of emergency is activated.

Tomorrow a friend of me and I wanted to attend the official welcome ceremony in front of the Residenz in Munich but the ceremony is now without onlookers. I am very sad about it but see the reasons for the cancelling. Now my friend and I will travel to Munich and have a nice day with strolling there.

Yes, there is a lack of video from the engagements. More still photos. When M&F do visits there are more videos and sound bites because they stop to answer questions from BB or BT at events on the spot so there is more live video of arrivals, departures, etc. This visit has been more photo coverage of the events.

This has actually been well-covered by the main TV news, so there should be a number of videos.

I suggest our newsdiggers check out tv2.dk and dr.dk.

The focus on TV2 news tonight was a museum about the German refugees fleeing in particular the Soviet army at the end of WWII.
Several hundred thousands sought refuge in DK and as such a museum has been build in DK to cover this little knows and to this day still sensitive subject.
But as this is also German history, Germany has help fund the museum.
- A kind of bridge-building and strengthening mutual relationships through common history.
We in DK have become pretty unsentimental in regards to our history, also the WWII history, as the WWII generation has grown old and dying off, and in a number of cases wish to put the record straight.
That is both in regards to positive events in regards to what happened during WWII, but also the negative things that were either glossed over or hidden away.
I think that's a healthy approach. Studying, learning and reflecting based on hard facts, albeit sometimes unpleasant, is IMO always preferable.
The Germans are just as unsentimental and frank about their history, so I think quite a lot of Germans might wish to visit that museum.
