HRH The Crown Prince has agreed to sit on the committee of the Olympic Youth Games in Lillehammer in 2016. The Committee will act as an advisory body to the Board for the Youth Olympics.
Tuesday afternoon's Crown Prince Haakon in Lillehammer, together with, among others, IOC President Jacques Rogge, on the occasion of the launch of the Youth Olympics in 2016.
The Crown Prince will meet the youth teams at Birkebeineren stadium. In the evening he participates in a formal opening dinner on Maihaugen which marks the start of work on the event.
The Committee will consist of members appointed by the Ministry of Culture, the Norwegian Olympic and Paralympic Committee and Lillehammer, as well as members appointed by the Board in Lillehammer Youth Olympics Organising Committee (LYOGOC), from municipalities, county councils, sports associations and sports bodies and government agencies and other organizations .
About Youth Olympics
Youth Olympic Games have so far been held twice, namely in Singapore in 2010 (summer) and in Innsbruck 2012 (winter). In two years the Youth Olympic Games (summer) held in Nanjing, China.
Youth Olympic Games 2016 will be a key part of a 10-year effort for Norwegian youth sports. There will be a unique partnership between sport and educational and cultural institutions.
Youth Olympics held over 10 days in all winter olympic sports. Participants will be aged 15 to 18 years.
WSC and tradition
Crown Prince Haakon was also in the committee of the World Ski Championships in Oslo in 2010. Here he dedicated himself especially in recruiting and supervision of volunteers, including to ensure cultural diversity among the volunteers.
Similarly, His Majesty King Harald, Crown chairman of the committee during the World Ski Championships in Oslo in 1982. King also engaged actively in connection with the Olympic Winter Games in Lillehammer in 1994. King Harald was honorary chairman of the organizing committee LOOC.
