As far as I know the ring is a heirloom that was already given to Sonja Haralden by Crown Prince Harald. I think Crown Princess Märtha also wore this ring.

These photos were taken before the engagement, Haakon wanted so demonstrate, that his love for Mette-Marit is serious, and the press should leave in peace Mette-Marit and her family, friends etc. (very romantic, how he protected MM also before the engagement:

Behind that happy ending, there was a lengthy negotiation. The couple had to sign a prenuptial agreement of separation of property in which it is stipulated that, in the event of divorce, Mette-Marit will leave the Shaugum estate, where the Royal Family has their residence, without property, as it arrived. The document also specifies that his son Marius will not have any right to the crown and that he will not be adopted by Haakon, to avoid problems.

Why was it needed to stipulate that Marius would not have any right to the crown. Of course, he didn't.

And why even consider adopting him if he still had a father? I don't think other stepparents would normally adopt a child from a previous marriage if the other parent is still alive and an active part of the child's life.

We don't actually know that it did since it's just gossip from a magazine.

But if it did then it's probably just to be extra cautious, legally speaking, in a very unusual situation. At this point IA and SM weren't born yet and there was speculation about just how it was going to work with an older brother/son who was part of the family on a personal level but not an official, royal one.

Some stepfathers do end up adopting their "bonus kids" for whatever reason, even if a biological parent is still alive.

Where can we see this prenuptial agreement?

I assume the public can't because it's a private legal document between the individuals concerned and their lawyers.

Not as far as I know. "Ekskjæreste" is not gender-specific.

expojkvänner, as they write it in this article, is a male person.

As a Norwegian, I have grown up with the Magazine Se og Hør ( my mum always bought it), and you have to take a pinch of salt, cos they write anything to sell it. This story about Mette Marit is just old crap and I have lost count how many times they have actually written about it. The story is about MM's past, and that her ex boyfriend ( who is 14 year older than MM) have some compromising photos of MM. Before the wedding he required 8 Mill norwegian kroner from the Palace to destroy the photos. Anyway the King and MM getting this idea that MM should talk about her past on TV, which is did.

And exactly 20 years ago they were visiting WTC.

I imagine how the hearts of King Harald, Queen Sonja, Sven Hoiby and Marit Tjessem jumped up when next day they heard/saw what had happened...

Interview:

News about the engagement announcement of Prince Haakon and Mette-Marit on a Norwegian TV channel.

How Crown Prince Haakon and Mette-Marit Tjessem Høiby's engagement to marry was handled by King Harald V and then Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg, including the dubious interpretation of Article 36 of the Constitution:

Haakon has said in interviews that when he told his parents about MM's past, the King said, "Is it more?" To which Haakon replied "no" - and the King said that "Dette klarer vi!" (''We'll manage this!'')

And then to the constitutional stuff:

According to the then Prime Minister, Jens Stoltenberg, the King called him to the palace before the engagement - and informed him that Haakon wanted to marry MM.
He told the PM that he knew about Article 36 in the Constitution, which states:

"A Prince or Princess entitled to succeed to the Crown of Norway may not marry without the consent of the King. Nor may he or she accept any other crown or government without the consent of the King and the Storting. For the consent of the Storting two thirds of the votes are required.

If he or she acts contrary to this rule, they and their descendants forfeit their right to the throne of Norway."

He explained that he understood that when the word "King" is written in the Constitution, it had to be interpreted as "the King in Council of State'' (which, today, means the government).

But after that, the King said the following: ''Men akkurat når det gjelder denne paragrafen om at kongen må godkjenne kronprinsens ekteskap, vil jeg mene at kongen faktisk er kongen, det vil si meg – og ikke deg''.
("But just when it comes to this Article about that the King must approve the Crown Prince's marriage, I would think that the King is actually the King, that means me - and not you.")

And then it was done, neither Stoltenberg nor any other prime minister could do anything about it.

Well, as Jens Stoltenberg said in his autobiography:
''Kongen og jeg var skjønt enige om at kronprinsen kom til å gifte seg med den han var glad i, og hvis noen prøvde å nekte ham det, enten det var kongen eller regjeringen, så måtte vi regne med at landet ikke lenger hadde en kronprins.''
(''The King and I agreed that the Crown Prince was getting married to the one he loved, and if anyone tried to deny him that, whether it was the King or the government, then we had to assume that the country no longer had a Crown Prince.'')

Apparently, even the king himself was worried that the government would not be happy with Mette-Marit as future queen - otherwise, there would have been little reason to stress that point.

It didn't occur to me, but that makes sense (even if King Harald V's worries about the government's position proved unfounded).

Is this quote the only source for the belief that Crown Prince Haakon would have been willing to sacrifice his crown to marry Mette-Marit Tjessem Høiby, or are there others?

The idea that Haakon would have chosen his fiancée over the throne has been mentioned often in recent discussions on this forum, but I haven't seen a source posted.
