As a young man Christoffer had the title of Duke of Estonia. He supported the politics of his brother King Eric VI.

His coronation charter limited King Christopher II's ability to assess taxes and demand payment on the mortgages.
Christopher II could make no decision regarding the realm without the consent of the nobility and the bishops.
