The Old Little Belt Bridge, which was once the main transportation link between the two islands, has installed a bridge walk that will be open for the public so they can walk across the strait. The walk is 60m above the water.

After speeches by the Mayors of Middelfart and Fredericia and the Danish Minister for Transport at the Hindsgavl Nature Centre, it was time for Mary and the other members of the first bridge walk group to change into bridge walking gear and begin their walk (the entire experience, including a safety briefing, takes two hours).

Once they got to the middle of the bridge – which is 1.18km long – Crown Princess Mary officially declared the bridge walk open and 3,000 balloons were released from a boat on the Little Belt strait.

Speaking to the media after returning to the ground, the Crown Princess said she was “fine with heights…or at least on this level” and that she hoped many people would take advantage of the bridge walk to take in the impressive scenery. She also said that once all her children reach the 140cm height requirement, they will come back as a family to walk the bridge.
